ABSTRACT
Energy is a critical resource for Singapore’s economic competitiveness. The presentation will start with the
evolution of the Singapore energy market reform, from full vertical integration to the current liberalised
market model to drive technological innovation and economic efficiency to exert competitive pressure on
energy prices for the benefit of consumers. Our energy challenges in the local context of high dependency on
fossil fuel imports, and geographical/land constraints which make us renewable-energy disadvantaged will
also be discussed, followed by the key strategies and initiatives to promote secure, competitively priced and
sustainable energy supplies to meet our energy needs.
