Biography:
Gavin Stewart Dawe completed a PhD in Pharmacology at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College
London, University of London, United Kingdom. After postdoctoral research at the Institute of Psychiatry,
he worked in industry with ReNeuron Limited and Eli Lilly and Company before joining the National
University of Singapore (NUS). He is currently an Associate Professor and Research Director in the
Department of Pharmacology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, a member of the NUS Graduate School
for Integrative Sciences and Engineering, and a principal investigator under the Neurobiology and Ageing
Programme, Life Sciences Institute, and the Singapore Institute for Neurotechnology (SINAPSE). His
laboratory investigates the neuropharmacology of drugs for age-related neuroscience and mental health
disorders with systems neurobiology, behavioural neuroscience, electrophysiological and optogenetic
approaches. He is Core Leader of the NUHS Neuroscience Phenotyping Core, which provides behavioural
phenotyping facilities and services, and a member of the NUS Drug Development Unit, for which he
provides behavioural toxicity screening services. Local and international pharmaceutical industry has
sought his services as a consultant and scientific advisory board member. He has won a number of awards
locally and internationally, including the National University of Singapore Young Investigator Award 2002
and the GlaxoSmithKline Academic Centre for Excellence Research Award 2010.
