He was a founder of rugby league in Australia and an exceptional player of rugby and Australian Football. His generosity and good nature were legendary. When he died in June 1915 – at a time when Australians were not lacking cause for grief – word of his passing was like a death in the family. His funeral procession is the largest Sydney has known. For those who saw Vic at his height and later saw Don Bradman, they refused to concede that Don was better. As the centenary of the day of Vic’s death approaches, not a single adverse story has emerged about him. To commemorate the life of Victor Trumper, the Australian Cricket Society, the Victor Trumper Society and the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust have come together to organise an event in Sydney on 26, 27 and 28 June 2015. The cost of the event will be $100, which will include dinner, seminar, Saturday lunch and a book on Victor Trumper to be distributed at the end of the seminar. The dinner and seminar will be co-ordinated by Mike Coward. FR ID AY 26 JU N E On the evening of Friday 26 June there will be a dinner at the North Sydney Harbourview Hotel. The Bradman Museum curator, David Wells, will be showing items of Trumper significance from the Museum’s collection. LBW TRUST From all registrations received the sum of $10 will be donated to the LBW Trust, one of cricket’s most prominent charities and one with international reach.
