Our rate of regular attendance moved from below 50% for 2013 and 2014 to 78% at the end of term one, 2015. This means that 78% of our students attended school regularly (more than 9 days out of every 10). This is 90% and the Department of Education calls this regular attendance. Although this may seem good, we still need to do better by the end of this year. Teachers find it very difficult to make huge improvements to the grades of students who attend less than 9 days out of every 10. Our goal for the end of 2015 is to see 80% of or more of our students with coming to school at least 9 days out of every 10 for most of the time. 11 students had 100% attendance last term. They will be awarded a prize at the next assembly. Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) I will be sending home letters and forms soon requesting information about students with a disability for the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data for students with disabilities. This is an Australia-wide initiative and data will be collected every year starting from this year from every school across the country. A disability could be in a number of different categories: Physical (e.g. asthma, vision, anaphylaxis, celebral palsy, juvenile arthritis) Cognitive (e.g. epilepsy; autism, stuttering, intellectual disability, ADHD) Social/emotional (e.g. anxiety, depression, bulimia nervosa) to the following students who won merit certificates at the assembly on 26 March Kristen Josh Daniel Luke Dean Tazmin Isaac Coorow Primary School School Board Training Norah Jones, Principal of Coorow Primary School has suggested a collaborative event between our schools as the only two schools in the Shire of Coorow. Her suggestion is outlined below. At this stage we will be looking at visiting Coorow in either week 6 or week 8 of this term. The date and day will be confirmed soon. One of the areas that we have set goals in this year is engaging with and having a positive impact on our community. There sometimes appears to be a large divide between “the coast” and the “the inland”. As the only 2 schools in our shire I am hoping that in 2015 we can begin to develop a stronger relationship between our two school communities (with some input and help from our Shire). This will take place on Monday 11th May at Jurien Bay at a venue and time yet to be decided. This is only for School Board members. An idea that has been suggested by Coorow staff is inviting our Shire “coastal cousins” (Leeman PS) to Coorow for a Joint Schools picnic/activity day during the wild flower season (at the Coorow Community Farm) and our school making the return visit to Leeman in December during Coast Care Week. Cross Country We need to start training ASAP for the Cross Country competition at Eneabba which will be held early in term three. We are looking for someone who can train our students 2, 3 or 4 times a week for approximately 20 minutes to half an hour each time. Training could start at 8.30am before the start of school OR from 2.40pm -3:00pm at the end of each day, whichever is suitable. If there is anyone or a few people who can support our students with training for this event please contact the front office at school on 9953 1083 as we need to start training soon. Winter Carnival Lapathon We will organise a Lapathon date soon for later this term. Over the past two years we have raised almost $3000 in only two hours from everyone’s generous donations to our Lapathon events. We look forward to raising a record amount this year. This year’s Winter Carnival will be held at Jurien Bay SHS on Friday 19th June. Our Years 3-6 students will be competing against other schools in soccer and netball. Thanks go to Bianca Collins and Bec Voss who have offered to coach our soccer and netball teams respectively.
