JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of a Librarian, performs the following tasks: assistance with Barrie Public
Library’s summer reading programs, primarily for Teens but may also assist with Readopoly;
assistance on an as-needed basis with programs in the Children’s and Youth department and
other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a student with an interest in working with children and reading
Ability to work in a busy public service department
Ability to work independently with good attention to detail
Must demonstrate keyboarding proficiency and good clerical skills
Ability to speak languages other than English is an asset
Must be 18 years of age or older
A Police Record Check, including vulnerable sector screening, is required and is a condition of
employment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide a friendly, welcoming greeting to teens, children and their families.
2. Assist teens to play the Teen Summer Reading Game and help distribute rewards. May
occasionally assist with Readopoly for children.
3. Record statistics provided by program users (age, school, etc).
4. Assist with craft and activity preparation, set up and clean-up of activity areas.
5. Preparation each morning of Teen Summer Reading activities in Teen Area.
6. In quiet times, tidy book displays, shelf read, assist staff with various clerical tasks.
7. Work with staff members as a team in meeting the needs of each participant.
8. Report concerns, needs, or incidents to Supervisor.
9. Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
 This is a system-side shift position that may be assigned at any Barrie Public Library
location.
 This is a public service position and the hours of work may include evenings and
weekends.
 Works in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Ontario
Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and privacy legislation as required.
 Must be able to withstand the physical demands of the job.
