GOOD PEOPLE, GOOD CAUSES LIFE CENTERS, BECAUSE LIFE MATTERS Stepping inside the somewhat nondescript building on the northwest corner of Franklin and Pendleton Pike, you cross a threshold into a place of warmth and welcome. Life Centers, a Christian-based pregnancy resource center has eight such locations in central Indiana, making it the largest in the state. Together they served more than 20,000 young women and men last year who found themselves in difficult pregnancy situations. There are many resources available for pregnant moms at Life Centers “Life Centers provides emotional, material, spiritual and educational support,” said Lucy Urban, Northeast Center Director. “We want these women to feel informed as they make decisions on childbirth, adoption and even abortion.” The center operates daily to provide the community with education on fetal development in a non-judgmental and safe environment, helping women make informed decisions. “We work every day in order for Life Centers to continue the mission of saving babies and transforming the lives of our clients,” stated Tom Shevlot, Executive Director. “The one-on-one counseling of our ministry is still the key factor in abortion decisions but we must be able to reach these women.” Dedicated staff and volunteers provide confidential, free services including pregnancy tests, ultrasound exams, peer counseling, 24-hour Help Line, support services (such as diapers, bottles, maternity and baby clothing, etc.) and post-abortion support groups. Yes, the organization is faith-based, so they offer prayer and encourage young women to leave the center making better lifestyle choices with perhaps a new found hope found in faith. Life Centers always has a need for caring volunteers and donations. Financial and baby-item donations (diapers, clothing, formula, etc.) are an on-going need as well.
