Community Assemblies
Community assemblies are meetings that take place in the borough of Chesterfield, which we
want the whole community to be a part of. Together we want to create a successful partnership
to help shape the future of our neighbourhoods.
How do community assemblies work?
There are four community assembly areas in the borough of Chesterfield. Anyone who lives or
works in each area is encouraged to get involved.
You can get involved either:
• online
• at a local community meeting
Online
You may wish to be our friend on Facebook or follow us on Twitter so you can find out more
about the assemblies activities and events. You could take part in online discussions, surveys or
receive e-mail updates.

If you would like to be added to our mailing list, please contact [email protected]
Local community meetings
Community assembly meetings will take place four times a year. We work with local
communities to identify priorities for their area and develop action plans to progress community
solutions. The assemblies will work with Chesterfield Borough Council, Derbyshire County
Council, town and borough councils, Derbyshire Police, health services, the community and
voluntary sector and, most importantly, local communities to make real change happen.
The next assembly meetings will take place in June 2015. We hope you can join us

New online charities registration service
Charities can now register online with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), rather than having to
use a paper form, the HMRC has announced.
Charities must be registered with HMRC to claim gift aid and other tax reliefs, and the
registration process is completely separate to that used by the Charity Commission.
Up until now they have had to do so using a paper form, ChA1, but a digital alternative is now
available.
HMRC said the service has in-built checks and guidance to help organisations provide the
right information and supporting documentation.
To access the digital alternative visit www.gov.uk/charities-and-tax/get-recognition
HMRC and the Commission have said they will move towards a joint registration process by
2016.

Shared parental leave and pay
Shared Parental Leave will enable eligible mothers, fathers, partners and adopters to choose
how to share time off work after their child is born or placed for adoption. This could involve
returning to work for part of the time and then resuming leave at a later date.

Shared Parental Leave: a good practice guide for employers and employees
Shared Parental Leave summary process
Key points
•
Qualifying mothers and adopters continue to be entitled to Maternity and Adoption rights but
they may also be able to choose to end this early and exchange it for Shared Parental Leave
and Pay. They and their named partner will then need to decide how they want to share this
new entitlement
•
Two weeks of paid Paternity Leave continues to be available to qualifying fathers and the
partner of a mother or adopter. However, Shared Parental Leave has replaced the Additional
Paternity Leave entitlement
•
These regulations came into force on 1 December 2014 and apply to eligible parents where a
baby is due, or a child is placed for adoption, on or after 5 April 2015

Charity audit threshold to double to £1million
The government has announced that it will go ahead with plans to double the audit threshold

requirements. The decision follows a consultation that ran for seven weeks from December to
January 2015 and changes will come into effect on 31 March, 2015. The consultation followed
a recommendation by Lord Hodgson of Astley Abbotts in his review of the Charities Act 2006.

Funding Information
20 April 2015 – Pink Ribbon Foundation
Invites UK Applications
Registered charities working for the needs of patients of breast cancer have until the end of
May to apply for one of the Foundation’s annual grants.
Each year, the Pink Ribbon Foundation invites charities registered in the UK who are
concerned with breast cancer to apply for funding from the money it has raised throughout the
year.
The funding is offered to charities, both large and small, whose objects are:
To relieve the needs of people who are suffering from, or have been affected by, breast cancer
by providing, or assisting in the provision of, information, care or emotional, practical and
financial support.
To advance public education in the understanding of breast cancer, its early detection and
treatment, in particular but not exclusively by commissioning, or conducting, research into the
causes, detection and treatment of breast cancer and by disseminating the results of such
research.
The Foundation is keen to support initiatives which promote a positive view of living with breast
cancer. It welcomes applications from all ethnic and minority groups.
Grants of up to £5,000 can be used to help with revenue, capital, or project costs.
The deadline for applications is 29 May 2015. Grants will be awarded in mid to late July
2015.

Links has as its central value a belief in equal opportunities. It recognises that many groups and individuals
within society have been and continue to be discriminated against, both directly and indirectly, on the grounds
of, for example, their race, nationality, ethnic or cultural origins, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation,
religion, political belief, social class, employment status, low income, mental health, marital status, HIV/AIDS
status, appearance, refugee status, caring responsibilities and unrelated criminal conviction.
Links recognises that passive policies are inadequate as a means of combating discrimination. It therefore commits
itself to taking positive action to address barriers experienced by people who are discriminated against in the above
ways.
Links is financed by Derbyshire County Council, Chesterfield Borough Council and North East Derbyshire District
Council and Social Enterprise Earnings.
