M U S C I A N S A word about: The Local Music Collec$ve is just a group of folks who love music. Some of us play, some of us sing, and a lot of us just listen, but all of us enjoy it so much that we want to share it with others. Our mission is simple -- we want to promote, encourage and support live music in the Central Susquehanna Valley. 30 years ago when the LMC first started, our emphasis was on bringing excellent musicians to the Valley to perform, but it became clear that we have plenty of great musicians here already, so our focus shi=ed to helping to create places for them to play. About 20 years ago, the LMC played a central role in the crea$on of the King Street Coffeehouse, which has become a Valley ins$tu$on. We publish a quarterly newsle>er to keep our members in the musical loop. We offer a website for that same purpose. And throughout our history we have held a Jam every month, which is to say one of our members hosts a party where folks gather to play music -- whatever songs they wish, with whatever instruments they have brought, and no two Jams are ever alike! People first come to a Jam as strangers, soon make friends, and over the years become part of a kind of extended family. It’s such a good thing that we want to share it with everyone -- the only creden$al needed is a love of music. And we especially want to help young folks get a start in music so that they can find the same pleasure we have enjoyed all these years.
