Big win for the Sunshine Coast
In December I announced a big win for the Sunshine Coast with 570 new
federally funded aged care places to be delivered across the region worth just
under $32 million annually.
Of the 570 new aged care places, 526 will be new residential aged care places
and a further 44 will be new home care places that will help older Australians
remain living in their own home for as long as possible.
This is fantastic news for our region as it will help to meet demand for quality
aged care services in our community and provide world class residential
options for residents. The funding will also be beneficial for the construction
industry and create hundreds of permanent jobs once completed.
It is anticipated that the new aged care places will become available from 2016.

Businesses benefit from red tape removal
Did you know that the Commonwealth Government
has removed over 10,000 pieces and over 50,000
pages of legislation since being elected in 2013?
power we have announced more than $2.1 billion in red
and green tape savings for the business and not-for-profit
sectors.
Small businesses are the heart of the Sunshine Coast
economy and the removal of red tape is going a long
way to delivering on the Government’s mission to build
a strong and prosperous economy.
The removal of red tape makes a real difference to small
business owners by saving them both time and money,
reducing the tax compliance burden with administrative
changes to GST and PAYG reporting.
I have had numerous discussions with small business
owners in our region about red tape and I am pleased
to say that since the Government was elected into

was timely that we think about the sort of Australia we want
for the next generation.
My speech highlighted just a few of the many success
stories from right here on the Sunshine Coast that
would not have occurred without allowing small
business players to facilitate new growth opportunities
by working together, supporting each other and
collaborating to achieve innovation, job creation and
long-term sustainability.
I want to see strong competition and I want small and
medium businesses on the Sunshine Coast and across
Australia to have every opportunity to succeed and create
the opportunities and wealth our regions need to thrive.
More Federal Government

In the Electorate
Safer Streets Funding
I am very pleased to announce that, as part of my election
commitment, the Glass House Country Chamber of
Commerce have received their first instalment of Safer
Streets funding for the installation of CCTV in Glasshouse
Mountains, Beerwah and Landsborough.
The CCTV will cover hot spots in both townships near the
railway stations and nearby shops and will greatly assist in
crime prevention and prosecuting any offenders.
It is expected that the CCTV will be operational by the end
of October 2015.

Important discussions on health reform
One of my first priorities for 2015 was to talk to the local
medical community about health reform.
On 3 February I hosted a Health Forum with 40 local
medical professionals where I presented my views on
Medicare reform and where I believe the Government
should be focusing their efforts.
I was very pleased to see the local medical community
express their desire to work collaboratively with
Government to ensure that any health reform is
appropriate, sustainable and ultimately provides the best
health outcomes.
In the same week I hosted Health Minister Sussan Ley
in the electorate as part of her consultation on Medicare
reform.
Minister Ley attended meetings in my office with local
doctors and pharmacists and I am happy to say that her
approach to consultation is definitely a step in the right
direction when it comes to health reform.

Council receives Federal boost
In February I was very pleased to announce that the
Sunshine Coast Council received their third payment as
part of the Australian Government’s Financial Assistance
Programme.
The $2.5 million quarterly payment will support the Council
to deliver the services and facilities that are important for
our region.
This funding can be used by the Council for local priority
projects including infrastructure, health, recreation,
environment, employment and road projects.
