Great job folks! Annual Club Auction - May 7 - It’s Almost Here!! Now is the time to start thinking about what you might be able to donate. The Board has decided to hold this year’s auction May 7th at Tigard American Legion Hall at 8635 SW Scoffins St., Tigard, OR 97223. This gives us more room for the event. It will be coming up sooner than you think. What can you donate? We always welcome rods, reels, art work, flies, camping gear, books and magazines -- essentially anything associated with our sport. But don’t be afraid to ‘think outside the box’. Restaurant coupons and other service-oriented discounts are always welcome. Get your items to any of the board members. See you on the water! Chuck President, WCFF A great catch by WCFF member Charles Lorang at our last outing to Vernonia Pond. Fly of the Month: Low Rider PMD Mayfly Contributed by Ralph Brooks and Sara Mckenzie We don’t know a lot of specifics about this fly other than it is a great fly on both moving and still waters. Many variations of this of this fly can be found and they probably all work well. This just happens to be one of our favorite patterns that is useful from spring through the summer and into the fall. How to Tie: 1. Tie in a sparse tail of teal or mallard flank (7-10 quills). The tail should be about as long as the hook shank. 2. Tie in wire ribbing at rear of hook shank. 3. Dub a slightly tapered body about 2/3s the shank length. 4. Secure a tuft of marabou on top and towards the rear of the fly. Tear off to a length equal to about ½ the abdomen. 5. Tie in turkey or goose quills to be used as a wing case or Category Trout shellback. Hook 1X Long Dry or Curved Nymph, 6. Tie in a partridge feather by its tip. size 14-18 7. Dub the thorax to just behind the hook eye leaving Thread PMD or gray 8/0 sufficient space to tie off additional materials. Tail Natural Teal or Mallard Flank 8. (Option – the wing case can be Wing Pale Olive Marabou cemented for a sheen or use an epoxy or UV material coating) Wing Case Turkey & Epoxy Legs Hungarian Partridge, natural Variations: This pattern can be tied in virtually any color and size to match a wide variety of mayflies. More often than not, it is used for pale morning duns, blue-winged olives, or Cahills. How to Fish: This fly is fished with a dry line and long leader. The fly is meant to sit in the film or just below the surface. In stillwater situations very slight twitching may be imparted. In moving water drag-free drifting is usually the preferred method.
