Beyond Beauty Paris puts French Perfumery in the spotlight
At this year's Paris show, we welcome the creation of a new space for expression for fragrances and its
industry.
Claudia Bonfiglioli, International Director of the beauty division at Informa Group comments, "Paris is the
capital of perfume. The culture of perfumery “à la française” is celebrated worldwide and we want to give
acclaim to the perfumery industry, its creation, and the master perfumers. In this purpose, we will
present a dedicated exhibition area called Beyond Beauty Fragrance, aimed at every perfume experts,
manufacturing houses, raw material suppliers, glass and cardboard manufacturers, perfume
brands…completed by a space for expression on the creation of perfume, and activities with the ‘noses’
from large perfume houses and leaders from the perfume industry in attendance. As part of the Beyond
Beauty Fragrance launch, in collaboration with Marie Huet and Johann Vitrey*, and with the support of
Comité Joséphine, the show will favour the fine perfumery. They will be co-chairing a 2-day Masterclass
to explore artistic perfumery. A true olfactory journey into the fine fragrance world, Paris will be for the
first time the meeting place for rare perfumes”
The University of rare perfume: responding to the market
According to journalist Anne- Laurence Gollion, for The New Economist, “Bigger brands are not
innovating, it is the niche perfumers that deal with new territories with confidence”(published on
03.04.2014).
It is for this reason that, in 2015, Beyond Beauty Paris has decided to give an exclusive voice to the
exceptional world of perfume.
The figures speak for themselves:
•
In 2011 the niche perfume industry recorded a turnover of €160 million, or 18.5% of the
Perfumery sector (source: Ubifrance).
•
Over the last 10 years, the market for rare perfume tripled. (source: Cosmetique Mag, January
2014).
•
At Printemps Haussman, 25% of the turnover of the Parfumerie consists of niche brands and
these have increased by 50% in 2012.
•
Kilian at Harvey Nichols, is No. 1 in sales over all major brands .
•
Of 1330 fragrance launches in 2012, there were 331 niche fragrances and perfumes. (About 1
in 4).
•
At the same time, selective perfumery has lost its market share (-4.2% in volume in 2014), and
a retention in value thanks to price increases (+3.8% on average) with high-end perfumes
evolving and changing their formula (source: NPD France).
The next Beyond Beauty Paris kicks off September 2015, with beautiful fragrances to share with
industry professionals, as well as an insight into future issues and challenges. The ‘Power of the Nose’
will recognise French creativity and expertise.
