KPMG Women’s PGA Championship Volunteers Needed
We have accepted a major role as the host Section for the KPMG
Women’s PGA Championship. While the needs for volunteers and
assistance are significant, this also provides us with a chance to
promote the Section, get involved with growing the game and be a
part of a women’s major. The fact that KPMG has also joined our
sponsorship family with dollars directed to our women
professionals and our growth of the game initiatives adds to the value for the Met PGA.
Click here to volunteer to be able to be on the practice tee with the greats of the LPGA.
Additional needs include a Saturday, June 6th event at Eisenhower Park; a Sunday, June
7th day of golf at Rye Playland; A June 9th clinic at KPMG Headquarters; a teaching net at
the New York Liberty game also on June 9th and our two teaching stations at the Mets
Game at Citi Field, also on June 9th and finally a Bryant Park lunch-time clinic in
Manhattan on June 10th. In addition to our practice area responsibilities at Westchester
Country Club, there will also be teaching areas for the fans throughout the week and a
special clinic on Saturday afternoon at the practice range. We need your help and hope
you will find the time to be part of this special week of golf.

May 26th & 27th are Dates for the POLO Golf Met PGA Head Pro Championship
Presented by Club Car at North Shore Country Club
The 2015 POLO Golf Met PGA Head Pro Championship presented by Club Car promises to be another outstanding
event. Polo’s involvement as title sponsor will help showcase our head professionals at a great event as well as
providing product to all the competitors. We also appreciate the continued involvement from our great friends at
Club Car. North Shore Country Club should be an ideal venue for this event that includes a regular division and a
senior division for those head professionals who wish to compete in the 50 and over group.
In addition, we will be offering a Life Member Championship on day one of the Head Pro
Championship at North Shore. Anyone classified as Life Member is eligible to play in this one
day event that includes lunch and a special gift from Polo Golf.
Met PGA Unveils Long Drive Event at Empire City Casino
A very unique venue will be the site of a new and fun-filled event as we invite
the area’s longest hitters, professional and amateur, to compete for the title and the prize money of this brand new
Met PGA competition. There will be plenty on the line, besides bragging rights, but our goal is also to build an
evening of fun around the finals of the competition in front of spectators, family and friends at Empire City Casino
this summer. We are working on the final details and dates and hope to announce our plans soon. We project a
June Qualifying round and the finals will take place on a racing night in August with our Empire City Casino Met
PGA Seniors Champion also being honored that evening.
Lincoln/Club Car Met PGA Pro-Presidents
Long Island Event at Muttontown on June 4th /Century Hosts Westchester Teams on June 23rd
Two of the most important events on our schedule are the Lincoln/Club Car sponsored
Pro-President Championships, presented by WeatherBug. These are important days to
spend with your President or some other key officer and we do our best to make sure it
is a comfortable setting for everyone. The Pro-President events are open to PGA Member head professionals and their Club President or delegates. The Long Island contingent will play at Muttontown Club on Thursday, June 4th while Westchester, CT and
Upstate professionals will tee it up at Century on Tuesday, June 23rd. We are so appreciative to have two great golf courses making a first class presentation as they do for so
many of our Met PGA events. We encourage professionals to arrange their own pairing
or if they do not have a pairing, we will arrange one for you.

The Race Continues - May Offers Three Lincoln Pro-Am Sites
Our Lincoln Pro-Ams are an important part of our tournament schedule and we are hoping that with
the Race for the Lease and some great venues, our fields will continue to grow. Not only do these
events provide professionals with an opportunity to play on a number of terrific area courses, but it is
also a great networking tool for assistants and all our professionals. The Pro-Ams also provide
Lincoln with the exposure they seek in addition to their major sponsorship of our events (Met PGA,
Women’s Met Open plus our Pro-Presidents and Pro-Ams). We are excited to have three great sites on the schedule
for May and hope our professionals from throughout the Section will take advantage of these opportunities. The
schedule includes Whippoorwill on Monday, May 4th, Bonnie Briar CC on Monday, May 11th and Knollwood on
Tuesday, May 19th. Lincoln has also added a wonderful charitable component to our 2015 events. Check out the
“Race for the Lease” standings on the web site look for some other new wrinkles as we move into the Pro-Am

Pinehurst, don’t wait any longer. Please check with Jeff Voorheis if you have questions about the registration

Educational programs, our Employment & Club Relations initiatives, our many Communications vehicles as well as
our growth of the game priorities. Each year we have been fortunate to have between 120 and 150 clubs and courses join our Met PGA Club Association. Our thanks to our head professionals who promote the Met PGA Club Association with their GM, President and/or facility leaders.

Mentor Monday at Scarsdale Golf Club on May 18th A Special Event for Head Professionals and Assistants
The season for the Assistants Tour and related activities is off to a fast start. Following the opening meeting at Engineers (and the election of Alex Smith as the new Assistants Officer) and with a strong schedule of Assistant Tour
events already posted, the 2015 season looks to be another successful one. In addition to the year-long AssistantAssistant Match Play Championship, and the early season events at Hampshire (replacing Woodway Country Club
due to winter damage) the Assistants Tour will gear up for the 3rd edition of Mentor Monday on May 18th.
Mentor Monday is a combination of education, networking, fraternalism and competition and it has quickly become
a significant addition to the schedule since Chris Case presented the concept 2 years ago. This year’s event will be
Monday, May 18th at Scarsdale Golf Club. A panel discussion with Eden Foster, Brian Gaffney, Chris Kenney and
Bill Smittle will headline the morning program, along with a Roundtable discussion. Lunch and a shotgun follow the
educational presentations. Our goal is to get as many of the less-tenured assistants, apprentices and PGM PGA University graduates to team with fellow assistants and at least one head professional in each pairing. This creates an
entire day of some mentoring and networking for everyone involved.
It is also not too early to be thinking about end of the season assistant honors and opportunities either. The Taylor
Made Assistant of the Year Award is based on service and performance. All candidates for the Gene Borek Squire
Cup Team will be considered along with any other applicant who supports the Met PGA programs and activities
(education, tournament and growth of the game), and are involved with fund-raising or community initiatives (such
as Junior Golf, Patriot Golf Day, etc.). The Board also seeks representative of the ideals of our Section in promoting
the importance of playing and teaching the game. Assistants will also once again be competing for the Gil McNally
Most Improved Assistant Player Award (based on performance in 2014 and 2015). The award is sponsored by The
Treiber Group in recognition of Gil McNally, long time head professional at Garden City Golf Club and a role model
for assistants and head professionals to emulate. Huntington Country Club’s Tim Puetz won the trophy and the
$2,500.00 prize last year based on his improvement on the scoring average from the 2013 to 2014 seasons.
The Assistants have continued their policy to try and combat slow play in their Tour events. In all Assistants Tour
shotgun events, players will have 35 minutes from the time the 3rd group’s scorecard is returned to complete play and
report to the scoring area. The first offense will provide for a warning and posting of the violators on the web site.
Penalties will be assessed for future infractions including ultimately the penalty of disqualification.
The policy adopted by the Met PGA Board of Directors to assist with players struggling to be competitive has also
been continued. It is felt that the Assistants Tour is meant to not only offer tournament opportunities, but also to help
player’s develop with their own games. Unfortunately, there is a concern that some players are just using this as a
playing opportunity. Starting with the opening Assistants Tour event, if a player returns a score of 90 or higher more
than once, his employer will be contacted by the Tournament Committee. They will discuss what actions the player
is taking to improve his or her game. If that player returns a 3 rd score during the season of 90 or higher, he or she
will be asked to suspend their play on the Assistants Tour until they have demonstrated their improvement and comfort to regain playing privileges.
Apprentices preparing for their next Level checkpoint are reminded that the William A. Mitchell Scholarship Fund
supports those with financial needs in completing the next requirements in their apprenticeship for PGA Membership. The Mitchell Scholarship Fund application will be posted in June this year with recipients announced at The
Mitch Pro-Am at Innis Arden on Tuesday, Aug. 11th (more than a month earlier this year to accommodate the Innis
Arden golf course construction work).
