W e in Young Life have heard a misconception that we “steal kids away from the church” for our own programs. Nothing could be further from our intent. In fact, we were founded for just the opposite — to introduce unreached adolescents to Jesus Christ and plug them into the church so they might grow in their faith for a lifetime. Our mission hasn’t changed, and we have a solid track record of working with most Christian denominations. We are seeing hundreds of teens a year meet Christ in this region and get plugged into the church. Often, their previously unchurched family follows them. How do they choose which church to attend? Typically, one of their friends in the group invites them to his or hers. Or, they may attend with one of their leaders. Wouldn’t it be great if there were a leader from your church serving on a Young Life team? WHAT IS YOUNG LIFE? Young Life is a nonprofit outreach organization meant to reach students who are lost and offer them everlasting hope in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Young Life has adopted a culture of acceptance, encouragement and love, which has spread around the world in order to introduce more young people to their heavenly Father through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. HOW TO MAKE “COME STEAL OUR KIDS” WORK FOR YOU! We invite a youth staff or volunteer leader from your church to join a local Young Life team as a natural extension of your church’s ministry. It could be for a junior-high or highschool ministry. A Young Life area director will train them in the principles and practices of effective incarnational ministry. This provides a seamless path for kids to get plugged into the church. WHAT DOES THIS COMMITMENT INVOLVE? • 6-10 hours each week for contact work, club, Campaigners, team meetings, and/or area leader training. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS FOR YOUR CHURCH? • A trained volunteer in incarnational evangelism who can return to the church. • New kids and their families being plugged into your ministry. • The kingdom of God is expanded in your church community.
