Millbrook High School Students & Parents:
Earlier this semester, the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) requested a districtwide waiver from administering the NC Final Exams. We received notice today from WCPSS that this waiver was approved by the State Board of Education. At Millbrook High School High, this means that there are no longer state assessments in the following courses:
●
●
●
●
English: English I, III, and IV
Mathematics: Math II, Math III, Advanced Functions & Modeling, Discrete Math, PreCalculus
Science: Physical Science, Earth Science, Physics, Chemistry
Social Studies: World History, US History, American History I, Civics & Economics
In each of these courses, we will administer a teachermade exam instead of the NC Final Exam. Because this change is coming midyear, we are attempting to create teachermade exams that are fair, comprehensive, and rigorous. This includes:
●
●
●
All teachers within a course will give the same exam. In other words, all students taking English I will take the same exam regardless of their assigned teacher.
There will be one form of the exam in each course. The exam, however, will differentiate between academic and honors.
In general, the structure and difficulty level of the exam will be similar.
For seniors, these courses are now eligible for senior exam exemptions if the student meets the exam exemption criteria.
If you have questions about the NC Final Exam waiver, please contact our Testing Coordinator, Ellen Fick ([email protected]). If you have questions about a specific exam, please contact the assistant principal who works with that department:
