Celebrating Makers in the Midwest
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Minneapolis, MN, March 30, 2015 – The Minneapolis/St. Paul Mini Maker Faire will have the Minnesota
State Fairgrounds buzzing on Saturday, May 30, 2015. The one-day festival will bring the world’s
greatest show (and tell) on earth to the Twin Cities. More than 200 local and regional makers will
showcase, demonstrate and share interactive creations with the public during this family-friendly event.
“Leonardo’s Basement is partnering with Maker Media,” said Executive Director Steve Jevning, “to
celebrate the richly diverse community of makers in the Midwest, from small DIY builders to global
manufacturers.”
The call for makers, artists, performers, speakers and other exhibitors is now open. If you are a tinkerer,
coder, woodworker, crafter, farm hacker, artist, student, designer, chemist, roboticist, entrepreneur,
scientist, food inventor, metalworker, educator, green technology creator, inventor, corporate designer
or bicycle builder apply now at makerfairemsp.com to share your projects at the Faire. Makers attend
for free.
“Minnesotans have a history of getting together to show what we've done. I'm excited to share my
projects and to see what everyone else has been working on in their garages, shed or craft room" said
Adam Wolf, Minneapolis-based maker and cofounder of Wayne and Layne, LLC. "Over the last five years,
I've been to more than a dozen Maker Faires across the country, from tiny ones to huge ones with over
100,000 visitors. I am excited to see what makers from across the state will bring!"
Minneapolis/St. Paul Mini Maker Faire is grateful for its sponsors including Boston Scientific, Science
Museum of Minnesota and H.B. Fuller. Minneapolis-St. Paul Mini Maker Faire is independently
organized and operated under license from Maker Media, Inc.
About Leonardo’s Basement

from their imagination. Since 1998 it has offered classes at its own workshop, schools and community
events providing tools and materials to design and build engineering, art and technology projects.
About Maker Media
Maker Faire is the brainchild of Maker Media and the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a familyfriendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker
Movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.
Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They
are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this
community.
The original Maker Faire event was held in San Mateo, CA and in 2014 celebrated its ninth annual show
with some 1100 makers and 130,000 people in attendance. World Maker Faire New York, the other
flagship event, has grown in four years to 600+ makers and 80,000 attendees. Detroit, Kansas City,
Atlanta, Milwaukee, Orlando, Silver Spring, Paris, Rome, Oslo, Trondheim, Tokyo, Newcastle (UK), and
Shenzhen are the home of larger-scale, “featured” Maker Faires and over 120 community-driven,
independently organized Mini Maker Faires are now being produced around the United States and the
world.
