Rules of the Essay Competition 1. NAME OF COMPETITION: Office of the Contractor General (OCG) Essay Competition 2. ELIGIBILITY: Students ages 14-18 years 3. ESSAY TOPICS: Write an essay between 1 000 and 1 500 words on one of the following: i. ii. iii. iv. v. What is corruption; A youth view The impact of corruption on Jamaica’s development To what extent will corruption hinder Jamaica’s ability to achieve its Vision 2030 objectives? Corruption is entrenched in societal norms in Jamaica and to that extent is practically impossible to eradicate. Discuss. A 1 2 3 Corruption Eradication Plan for Jamaica 2030 4. CLOSING DATE Entries may be submitted collectively by schools, or students may submit individually. All entries must be submitted by the latest 4:00 pm on Friday, March 27, 2015 5. FORMAT OF SUBMISSION Entries should be typed, Times New Roman (12 point), double-spaced and should include the following information on the first page: a) b) c) d) e) f) Full name of student Date of Birth Essay Topic Full name, address and phone number of school. JUDGING CRITERIA The winning entries will have the following characteristics: a) b) c) d) e) f) g) An introduction which engages the reader A logical interpretation of the theme/topic Details and examples appropriate to the theme/topic Originality of thought Appropriate style and range of vocabulary Use of proper grammar, spelling and structure A logical conclusion Please note that children or relatives of members of staff of the OCG are NOT eligible 8. PRIZES Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place winners in each category. 1st Place: School $100,000 Student $50,000 2nd Place: School $50,000 Student $25,000 3rd Place: School $35,000 Student $20,000 9. NOTIFICATION TO WINNERS Winners will be notified through correspondence to the school. Rules of the Poster Competition 1. NAME OF COMPETITION: Office of the Contractor General (OCG) Poster Competition 2. ELIGIBILITY: Students ages 10-13 years 3. GENERAL GUIDELINES: i. ii. iii. iv. v. Posters MUST be created on paper no larger than 30” x 24”and no smaller than 8 ½” X 14” Paints, coloured pencils, crayons or any other suitable instrument or material may be used to illustrate posters. All posters submitted will become the property of the OCG You should refrain from writing your name or other identifying information on your poster; Children or relatives of members of staff of the OCG will NOT be eligible 4. POSTER THEMES Corruption may be defined as any improper or unlawful conduct which is intended to secure a benefit for oneself or another. There are various types of corrupt acts which range from awarding of contracts to a friend who is not the best bidder; buying votes or even “skipping a line.” Students should complete an illustration using one of the following choices of corruption themes: 1) I have the right to a corrupt free Jamaica; 2) Corruption…Big Problem! Or 3) Create your own corruption theme of no more than one sentence 5. CLOSING DATE Entries may be submitted collectively by schools, or students may submit individually. All entries must be submitted by the latest 4:00 pm on Friday, March 27, 2015. 6.
