Job Title: Employment Case Manager Reports To: Employment and Education Director MULTI-‐SERVICE CENTER JOB DESCRIPTION Department: Education and Employment Classification: Full-‐Time -‐ Temporary FLSA Status: Exempt SUMMARY OF POSITION: This position will recruit, assess, provide counseling, and support services to approximately 30 youth/young adults who are in need of job readiness training and work experience. The position will support youth/young adults to complete job readiness training, and a work experience. Work experiences are subsidized internships approximately 160 hours in length over at two-‐three month period during the summer. At the end of the summer, this position will assist program participants to return to secondary school including GED programs and/or move on to post-‐secondary education/advanced training or unsubsidized employment. Program participants will have various barriers to success including low-‐ income, justice involvement, homelessness, lack of work experience, low-‐basic skills, etc. This position is based on temporary funding and begins May 2015 and ends September 30, 2015. This position is temporary and not eligible for benefits. SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. 40 HOURS LOCATIONS: Multi-‐Service Center and Multi-‐Service Center 1200 S. 33th Street 505 W Harrison St Federal Way, WA 98003 Kent, SWA 98032 KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Recruit youth and young adults (ages 14 -‐ 24) and assess participants to determine eligibility into the Summer Youth Employment Program. • Work as a team to develop integrated services to ensure that participants attain a work readiness goal/complete job readiness training. • Develop internship/work experience sites for participants based on their areas of interest and skills. Sites may be non-‐profits, government agencies or private businesses. • Provide on-‐going (weekly) case management to participant and to the worksite supervisor (work experience site). • Meet performance based outcomes related to activity completion, competency attainment, job placement and placement into secondary school, post-‐secondary education and/or employment. • Develop and maintain relationships with Business Service Staff, employers, coordinate and monitor work experience training sites, provide job search and job retention training, job development and job search assistance services. Complete required paperwork for the program that may be related to client eligibility, activities, demographics, payroll, timesheets, and outcome attainment. This includes monthly case summaries. • Complete transition plans with all program participants. • Other duties as assigned. LEVEL OF SUPERVISION: • None EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience providing direct education and employment services to disadvantaged populations. Experience requirement may be waived for candidates with personal knowledge of education and employment programs for youth/young adults. • Preference will be given to individuals with experience which has included one or more of the following: o Employment and education programs for youth and young adults o Employment agency placing individuals with employers o Guiding individuals through a comprehensive career exploration and assessment process o Providing employment preparation and job search instruction o Providing job placement services o Human Resources experience • EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATION/FORMAL TRAINING: • Bachelor’s degree in Social Services, or related field, preferred. High School Diploma or other Equivalent required. ESSENTIAL ABILITIES: • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining effective working relations with a diverse population of youth and young adults, criminal justice agencies, employers, other staff, community and technical colleges, and community based organizations • Demonstrated experience developing community outreach strategies as needed to effectively recruit youth/young adults and assist them in completing job readiness training and work experiences. • Ability to effectively manage time to work on multiple tasks in high pressure/short deadline environment, and to adapt to changes in work load demand and priorities. • Ability to work in stressful situations involving youth/young adults with barriers to success in education and employment. • Effective oral communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with youth/young adult and employees from diverse cultural and socio-‐economic backgrounds. • Proficiency in the use of personal computers, with working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and the Internet. • Ability to work independently, accurately and efficiently, with an eye for detail Excellent phone manners and customer service skills Requires valid Washington State Driver License, proof of current auto insurance and reliable transportation PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: These physical requirements are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
