CGW4U—Ms. Duff CGW4U / World Issues Research Paper A major task for your semester is to write a CREEP analysis essay of a specific issue in a country of your choice. This issue should have been within the last 10 years (likely, it will be something that is still continuing). Because we have done some ‘CREEP’ing in class, this type of analysis should be familiar to you. You need to look at the factors that have led to a particular issue. If you need a reminder of the factors: Cultural/Social: Cultural issues are often ethnic in origin and have been around a long time (the history of and between the groups); history, religion and social belief systems can all play a role often becoming political. Social issues have to do with CURRENT interpersonal relations or relations among communities and include cultural factors: very immediate and fluid; different societies have different social and cultural interactions Resources: these issues are about the extraction and/or exploitation of natural resources; there are costs to both the environment and to the people living there; natural resources are those things extracted from (taken from) nature that has value to a society (e.g. fossil fuels, water, forests, minerals, metals, etc.) Environmental: these issues are those that impact both the natural environment (e.g. rainforest) and the environment within which people interact with nature (i.e. a village or city) Economic: these issues are those involving the finances and the impact on the financial well-being of the country or countries involved (i.e. employment, taxes, etc.) Political: these issues are about power and control; any organization that designs, administers and makes judgments about rules or control, has power, not just elected governments Important Notes As this is a Gr. 12 essay, we will expand the format of a typical 5-paragraph format into an 11-paragraph essay (at minimum). Because of the subject, you are welcome to include captioned charts or graphs to further your arguments. Do not include pictures. All resources are to be documented in APA format and should be from reputable sources. **Because of the format of the essay, you only need to tackle THREE letters from the CREEP acronym.** Elements and Timeline Like any large task, it is always advisable to break the process down into manageable chunks. As such, we will be following the timeline below. Task Due Date 1. Topic Proposal (10%) April 10th, 2015 2. Outline and Annotated Bibliography (30%) May 11th, 2015 3.
