Program Options Melbourne Sexual Health Centre The delivery of Sacred Sistas is flexible. Please contact us to discuss options that would best suit your service and community. A Part of Alfred Health ACTIVITIES WORKSHOP FOR YOUNG WOMEN Half day workshop (2-3 hrs) module for both activities. This is ideal for schools, community groups, or if wanting to include it in an existing event/group/ camp, etc. There is flexiblility to do only one activity (requires 2 hrs). HEALTH WORKER TRAINING Half/full day or 2hr session modules available Provides information, support and guided activities that will allow workers to facilitate the Sacred Sistas workshop within their own communities. Can be structured as a stand-alone session, or combined with activities workshop for young women (see below). COMBINED The combined sessions include a module for health workers and participants together, with extra training for health workers. Groups can range from 3-15 participants. There is no cost involved. All information, workbooks and arts supplies are included. Artist: Andrew Bamblett Fun and creative approach to sexual and reproductive health education ACTIVITIES WORKSHOP FOR YOUNG GIRLS & WOMEN Sacred Sistas provides a safe space for young Aboriginal women (aged 12-30) to come and yarn, share stories, seek advice and support and be creative through two art-based activities: le’ brac c y ‘c d e d a e b Sacred Sistas Project began in 2012 with Arimaya Yates, a dedicated Koorie midwife, committed to promoting sexual and reproductive health education to young Aboriginal women. SUPPORT & TRAINING FOR HEALTH WORKERS elets creative clay bo wls While creating art we yarn about the natural rhythms and cycles of a woman’s body, sexual health education and risks of sexually transmissible infections (STIs) and blood borne viruses (BBV). Topics can include: • Puberty & menarche • Menstrual cycle • Ovulation & fertility • Pregnancy & conception • Contraception • Safe sex • STIs & BBVs • STI & BBV screening • Pap testing • HPV vaccination The project also supports Aboriginal health workers to promote sexual and reproductive health with young women. Training sessions have been designed to give workers the skills and knowledge in how to run a Sacred Sistas activities workshop within their own community.
