King. During this exclusive interview, several cadet questions will be answered. So let’s get to know our new director, shall we? I asked Col. King if he would share some of his background history with us. “Well let’s see, I’ve been in the military for 30 years and counting, a police officer for seven years, and have had a job at Camp Shelby in maintenance management for 14 years building and repairing military vehicles.” “Most importantly,” he said, “it was God’s calling that brought me here.” Col. King added that he wanted to improve the lives of the youth today. He also answered general questions. I asked what kind of field trips will we be able to go on? “Well you will be able to go to the USS Alabama, the Hattiesburg Zoo, and maybe even a trip to the ocean with possible fishing involved,” he said. What if the cadre are having trouble with controlling their platoon? “Well when the cadre say they are having an issue, I will address it.” He continued, “This message is for all cadets in Cycle 42, “If you are causing a disturbance in the classroom, or in the barracks, you will be dealt with accordingly.” And finally, I asked, do you have any advice for everyone here? “Yes, as a matter of fact I do. This is for all cadets here, stay focused on your goal, and the reason why you came here. Do not get involved with your platoon’s drama, and behave like your loved ones are watching you. Have respect for one another. Respect the cadre and most importantly have fun. Keep your nose clean. Participate and graduate,” he added. Well I hope everyone from Cycle 42 is ready to have a good cycle, learn some trades, obtain life experiences, and college or trade hours. He helps us more than anything and wants us to keep our heads up, and he wishes for us to pass our test. He always tells us to keep our eyes in the books. Sometimes he will take time out of his day to come and study with us. He even comes to our bunks to do it too. If we are not studying, he will wake us up and tell us to study. He is like a father to us in our barracks. He never aspires for us to fail,, and he desires us to stop being childish, to just grow up and act like young men. He intends for us to be successful. He never gives up on us because he treats us like his own kids. To sum it up, he makes us better ourselves. We never disrespect him, nor does he disrespect us. He’s always there when we need him. That’s why SGT. McCray is Alpha’s Cadre of the week. Cadet Davis, Alpha Bravo Bulldogs YCA Drum Core Cycle 42’s drum core is going to be the best drum line YCA has ever witnessed. We have competitive drummers from all different platoons. Captain Smith told us he believes that we can be the best at what we do. The lead snare drummer is Cadet McKenzie, and the lead quad drummer is Cadet Cantrelle. Captain Smith is a good teacher. We are learning a great deal. We have done a good bit lately. Over the weekend our platoon played scrimmage games against Echo and Bravo Platoon. Charlie won both games. The Charlie Boys were pumped up about their victory against the other platoons. Later on during the week, Wednesday, Charlie Platoon went on a prison tour. Charlie went to Leakesville prison, so that we could see how life is in a prison. That is somewhere we wouldn’t want to spend our lives. In conclusion, Charlie Platoon has had a great week in all! The activities the Honeybees participated in were Drill and Ceremony, Blood Drive, and Mentor Day. For instance, Mentor Day was a blast. We talked to someone that we felt comfortable with, and discussed our problems and events. The Hotel Platoon has won a variety of awards. We won best Drill and Health. The field trips the Honeybees participated in were the tour of the Hattiesburg Area and LRC. LRC brought many smiles to our faces, and we learned more about teamwork and sisterhood. LRC was an experience that many of us will never forget. We’ve gotten over our biggest fears like heights and trusting others. Although the Honeybees have not participated in any community service, we’re looking forward to giving back. Our student council representative is Cadet Lofton, and I know she has many ideas up her sleeve waiting on the wonderful Honeybees. Cadet Polk, Hotel 4
