Mt. Carmel Baptist Church - THE COURIER June 2015 “ON THE CORNER, REACHING OUT IN ALL DIRECTIONS.” A Word from the Pastor Dear Church Family, This month we welcome Mitch Casson, along with his wife Sarah and two children Carter and Caraline, to be our new children’s and family minister. He arrives just in time to participate in VBS and Centri-Kid, providing an excellent opportunity to get to know our children and their families. Be sure to introduce yourselves and welcome them warmly. We will be officially welcoming them with a reception and “pounding” on Sunday evening, June 28th. Please plan to attend. They desire to have close, personal relationships here, so do as you have done to me, and treat them like family and not like an employee. Our desire for Mitch and our church is that he leads and equips us to do family ministry and not just do ministry for and to us. To that end, we must always remember that each of us is responsible for our own lives, how we walk with God, and how we serve Him and others. Likewise, parents are responsible for teaching, guiding, and discipling their children in a biblical and godly way. The church should be ready to help, to augment, and to train parents, children, and the extended family in right living and good relationships, but in the end, each of us chooses our own course. Hopefully, each of us will choose wisely. Mitch has already demonstrated his commitment to building relationships and to lead and equip others. He, like all of God’s servant leaders, will need the members to respond, show up, volunteer, and work. We need parents to bring their children to the teaching and training opportunities we make available. We need more workers and helpers in children’s and preschool classes, extended session, and worship opportunities to guide the young ones who come. So please, everyone, pray and step up to the tasks ahead. Our children live in an increasingly dangerous world. If we do not adequately prepare them, they will be Minister to Children & Families A Welcome Reception for Mitch & Sarah Casson will be held on Sunday, June 28th at 6:00pm Details to follow crushed by the evil around us. None of us wants that to happen. God will help us to teach and to guide our families and children safely through, if we respond to His call. I know you will rise to the need and the opportunity. Here at Mt. Carmel, we are excited and anticipate the arrival of Mitch and Sarah Casson. He is our new children's and family minister. You will love both of them and their children. They are warm, loving, and very personable. We are very blessed to have them be a part of our work here. Children and families are very important to us at Mt. Carmel. There is no other time in our history where we need to put an emphasis on our children's development and family connections as much as right now. The world is changing quickly, and a lot of the changes that I see are not good. Families are placing their values and priorities on things that will not benefit our children as they grow and become adults. I grew up in a family with four boys, and I was the only girl. It was a busy household, and there was no time for a lot of spoiling and coddling. My mother and daddy were in school, and Daddy was pastoring. Both of my par- ents were holding down other jobs to make ends meet. I still remember, though, that even in the midst of so much "life" going on, my parents still found the time to prepare a meal and have us sit around the table at mealtime and share with each other our "goings and comings". These family times are what matter to children. The meal times my family and I shared together are still some of my most precious memories. I read this week in an article that families that have regular meals together with their families around the table are less likely to be in trouble as teenagers and are more likely to be productive adults. It gives us much to ponder and pray about, doesn't it? Time may be of the essence, but spending time together and teaching our kids, as we go about living our lives, is what will help them to know God and about God. It will teach them about integrity and character. It will teach them respect and honor. Our world is sadly lacking in these things today. Of course, we need to keep our lives centered on Christ and pray daily for God to give us wisdom and strength to do the right things in our homes and for our families. I am not living in a bubble, and I do know that things are much more difficult for families today. I also know that families choose the wrong path many times, and it won't be long before the consequences of those choices come back to haunt us and hurt society. I am thankful to be in a church that values children and families. Mitch is going to do a great job in helping us, as we partner together, to build strong families and grow spiritually and emotionally healthy children. Let's welcome Mitch, Sarah, and their beautiful children as they join us! God has great things ahead for them and for us here at Mt. Carmel and in Cincinnati!
