-----------------------------------------------------------My apologies for a shorter and later newsletter but late reports and my health have worked against
being on time. Would those members who wish to receive this by email please send me your email
address as several that I have are not correct Thank you Don H
Mens President
I wish to thank all those Club members who welcomed me both as vice-president and
President onto the Men's' Council. Roger Piasecki will also be welcomed on to the Council as
Senior Vice- President. His addition to our committee will give a new stability to the men's
council that has been struggling from lack of personnel.
Dulcie McGuinness, the President of the Ladies Council, and I have been co-opted onto a
committee that will handle issues that arise between members. The aim of this new sub-committee is to arrive at a
speedy settlement that is amenable to both parties. When I joined Mt. Gravatt Bowls Club, it had the reputation of
being one of the best social bowls clubs in Brisbane, visitors often remarked on the friendly atmosphere that
prevailed at all the social games. We should all strive to boost and maintain our friendly reputation.
If you have an issue with another member do not canvass it around the Club, see Dulcie or myself and ask us to sort
it out, we will do our very best to arrive at a solution.
I intend to gloss over most of proceedings of the Half-Yearly General meeting to tell you that the board is
investigating the upgrade of the grass green to a covered artificial green similar to the one at Manly, which is
brilliant. If we achieve this upgrade it would put Mt Gravatt up there among the premier bowls clubs in Queensland.
We are trying to put pressure on the company who installed the new carpet on our covered green to come and
permanently fix the faults that are appearing in the sub-layers of the installation. We will keep you posted, as I know
some of you have expressed dissatisfaction with the surface.
Next year our Premier league teams will be open to all club members. When I was playing in this competition early
this year, I did notice that nearly all the teams in the Premier League were comprised of players from the both the
ladies and men's sections.
The club selected mixed triples has been very successful which leads me to believe that more competitions in this
format will attract a good response from our members.
The selectors do a great job in assembling teams that are competitive, Ted Read and Bev Geldart selected the teams
for the current Friday night competition. We thank both of them for a job well done.
All of our selectors, ground staff, office staff, and all our volunteers deserve our gratitude for the sterling work they
do in preparing the greens, cleaning, selecting teams, sizzling sausages and the numerous other things that keep our
great club going as a successful venture.
James Donegan
My apologies about the black & white photo but will try and get a colour one for next issue Ed
Club Chat
Congratulations to Di and Alan Girvan who are celebrating their 25th wedding
anniversary with a caravanning trip to the Hervey Bay area and beyond.
Lyn Anderson will be participating in a Walkathon in Canberra in support of M.S.
suffers. Anyone wishing to make a donation for this worthy cause, please see Lyn.
John Fealy and fellow traveller have left on another overseas trip, flying first to
Singapore, and then embarking on a cruise which takes in southern Asia and India
and the Suez Canal. I believe they will also be visiting Israel and Greece. I am sure
the boys will have a great time.
My apologies for the error last News Chat where I had Mary Smith crossing the
Nullarbor Plain on the Ghan, and not the Indian Pacific.
Big welcome back to President Dulcie after her knee surgery. We all missed you. Many thanks to Senior
Vice Carol who did an excellent job whilst you were on leave.
Congratulations to Margaret and Noel Gallagher on the birth of their great grand-daughter.
Another to receive congratulations is Bev Geldart who has been elected Ladies President of Gateway
District. Well done Bev.
Bye for now,
Lorna
Ladies contribution Carol Reardon
Congratulations to Bev Geldart who has become President of Gateway Ladies. Hope it all goes well Bev
Congratulations also must go to the ladies who played in Super Challenge this year on reaching the finals.
They needed web feet to play as it was held on one of the wettest days we have had.
Competition in the pairs and singles is continuing.
The next Shirts and Skirts day will be held on Melbourne Cup Day. This will give the Shirts a chance to even
the score and maybe even have a bet on the day.
Dulcie has returned and I have been given the sack (yippee) but as yet Dulcie has not returned to bowling.
We wish her well and hope to see her back on the green soon
Thanks Carol for the contribution –again no photo of Carol . Sorry
Many Happy Returns to these members who celebrate their birthday in

SUPER CHALLENGE and PREMIER SEVENS COMPETITIONS 2015
Mt Gravatt entered teams in both Super Challenge and Premier Sevens. Even
though we were competitive in both competitions the results were not as good as
last year.
Super challenge Men in Bronze finished 3rd. in their section and missed out by 1
rink to qualify. On 3 occasions one of teams lost by one shot which was
unfortunate. One of the pairs, Tim Watts and Mark Secis played 9 games won 7
and lost 2 Well played to these players. The other teams were very competitive
throughout.
Super Challenge Ladies Silver qualified after the round robin games. These ladies
played outstanding bowls. In the quarter finals they beat Wellington Point with a win in the triples and a
draw in the fours.
It was then on to the semi- final against Cleveland. This was fought down to the wire with the Triples
loosing 25/27 and the Fours loosing 13/20. Congratulation ladies.
The Premier Sevens again was of a high standard with both teams having some tough games throughout
the rounds section of the competition.
The Division 3 team with some luck could have qualified. They had teams from Helensvale, Springwood,
and Greenslopes in their section which was probably the strongest section of the eight sections. Two very
good results for Mt Gravatt came in an earlier game where the fours won 49/6 and the pairs won 36/7.
Over all this squad of players were a credit to the club.
The Division 5 team failed to continue the good form shown by last year’s result.
This section had similar clubs competing against Mt Gravatt and again we did not play our best bowls. We
finished 4th. in our section.
Mal Ferguson in the singles won 7 and lost 2. Any other great effort from Mal. Both the pairs and fours had
their days but could not continue to be consistant through this competition.
To all players who competed Thank You for your effort and will see you in other inter club competitions in
the future.
As of April 11th. Mt Gravatt will be competing in two inter-club competitions.
Firstly we are in Bayside for players Div. 3 and below and Poinciana for players Div. 6 and below.
The Poinciana completion is run by Mt Gravatt with Ron Walton the co-ordinator.
Both these competitions are a good lead up to the pennant season.
To all bowlers get behind these players and support their efforts in bringing home THE BACON.

Business Manager’s Report
Next of Kin Forms
For the past few weeks next of kin forms have been available to complete and
hand in. The purpose of these forms is to provide information to those who
require it in the case of a medical emergency at the Club. The response has been
quite pleasing, however if you haven’t already completed a form and intend doing
so, you are urged to complete and hand in as soon as possible. Once handed in a
Mt Gravatt Bowls Club pen will be presented to you as a thank you. Information
contained in the forms will be maintained in a confidential manner.
Travel Incentives
We are entering into an arrangement through our sponsor Cruiseabout whereby we receive “kickbacks” for all travel
booked. It is based on a $ spent basis. Final details are being completed, however there will be a introductory
document comprising one page which you take with you to Cruiseabout when your travel is being booked. The
“kickback” is in the way of vouchers which we can use to benefit our Club.
Leave of Absence
As some of you will already be aware, Bev and I are taking leave from early May to mid September to enable us to
travel. Arrangements have been made for my absence for other members to look after the matters I usually take
care of. These include;
. Contact of sponsors for their sponsored day. Pat McLaughlin is looking after Men’s, Mixed and Retirement
Village Day sponsor contacts and Anne Houghton all Ladies events during this time. All preparatory work for
this has been completed.
. Friday night raffle roster has been completed to end of September and all persons taking part have been
sent a copy.
. Retirement Village Bowls Days of which there are two whilst I am away will be looked after by Ted Read
with assistance from the usual crew.
. There will be no grants coming up during this time which we will be applying for as far as I am aware.

Coaching
As previously stated the number of people joining the club has fallen away.
I am currently coaching two new ladies and one existing male member .
Irvin Lever has just released Dean Gaddes for play, so please make him feel
welcome.
If you see someone in the club you don’t know, then go up to them and
introduce yourself as they may be a new member. It is always nice to feel
accepted in a club.
Remember if you want to talk to a coach don’t hesitate to contact myself or any
of the coaches whose name is on the Board at the front door.
Remember we joined bowls to meet people & have fun.
