U14 Féile Hurling
Last Sunday was a momentous day for our Club as our U14 hurlers reaped their just reward for the sweat and toil they have
expended in recent months when they were crowned Limerick Feile Premier Hurling Champions, the first time this honour
has come to our Club, an honour that these boys and their selectors earned and deserved.
From the outset the determination and unity in this team was evident, watching their pre match warm up it was plain to
see that these lads were ready for the task ahead, with Richies final instructions ringing in their ears they took to the field
as a unit, determined to leave everything on the pitch in what was to be for our Club a glorious fifty minutes of hurling now
etched in Mungret St Paul's history.
From the throw in our lads took control notching up the first point after five minutes, a lead we were never to surrender
throughout this contest. Two further points quickly followed and it wasn't until ten minutes had passed that Na Piarsaigh
recorded their first score, though there were a few understandably nervous touches in the early stages we dominated the
first half and with a bit of luck could have gone in at half time with more than our three point lead.
Half time was a welcome break for many of our nervous supporters amongst the large Mungret following who well out
numbered our more illustrious opponents. Scores of budding hurlers took to the field at half time surely hoping that one
day it will be their opportunity to contest the holy grail of U14 hurling, while Richie Burke, Joe Moriarty, Jason Brosnan,
Brendan Ryan and Vince Bolger offered words of encouragement and sound instructions as they settled our boys during
the break, reminding them that it was still all to play for - there was nothing won yet.
Within seconds of the resumption of the match we had recorded another point and seemed to be retaining control in the
middle of the field. Na Piarsaigh, with history and tradition on their side were not to give up, two quick scores in
succession by the boys in blue brought the gap back to two points. The game was now switching from end to end with Na
Piarsaigh beginning to take control of the middle of the field, however the Mungret defense, which were largely untested in
the first half, proved more than capable of repelling all advances and our back six led by team captain Jake Connolly at
center half back made sure that the lead remained with the boys from St. Nessan's parish.
Mungret again extended the gap with a point only to be immediately pegged back by another point for Na Piarsaigh.
Another point for Mungret was again quickly replied to with a point for Na Piarsaigh. Then came the clincher, a Stephen
Cotter Gleeson solo run and shot from the left hand side saw the ball flash across the goal to the incoming Mark Patterson
who gathered the ball in his first touch and sent it crashing back goalwards only to see the Na Piarsaigh custodian at full
stretch to seemingly keep the ball from crossing the line, a scramble ensued and the Mungret lads piled into the square
among flailing hurleys, determination etched in their brows, which ultimately saw Sean O'Riordan bundle the ball to the
net. The raising of the green flag sent cheers and screams into the Knockea air from the huge Mungret following.
The score was now 1-6 to 0-4, could we dare to think we had the game won, this was Na Piarsaigh after all. The goal had
given the players a renewed spirit, every Na Piarsaigh score was matched by a Mungret score and the back six were playing
out of their skins. Na Pairsaigh had two close in frees in the final minutes which caused a few palpitations among the
Mungret crowd but thankfully the shots sailed over the cross bar.
Then it was all over, 1-8 to 0-6, the final whistle was greeted with a fanfare from the sidelines and a pitch invasion to rival
Limerick's Munster Final win of 2013, players and supporters alike leapt into the air and hugged one another, Mungret St
Pauls GAA Club had won its first ever hurling Féile Premier Final, and what's more they deserved every bit of it.
Na Piarsaigh players were disconsolate following the game but they and their management should be very proud of the
effort their boys had put in, it just was not going to be their day. The respect between both teams was there for all to see as
they shook hands and congratulated and commiserated with one other, both teams should be applauded for their
sportsmanship.
There were many outstanding players on the field for Mungret St Pauls in this thrilling final as well as in the preliminary
round victories, who'll ever forget Seamie Hurley's goal against Ballybrown in the semi final followed up by a Stephen
Cotter Gleeson strike. The effort and courage shown throughout the tournament by the defensive lines of Darragh
O'Hagan,Tom Bolger, David Rickard, Patrick Dwane, Mark Shanahan, Liam Lynch, Odhran O'Dwyer, Jake Connolly and
Dermot Moloney was exceptional. The mid field work horses of Dylan Brosnan and Conor O'Malley never let up
throughout the tournament and were well supplemented by the never ending pressing of forwards Mark Patterson, Sean
O'Riordan, Jack Moroney, Brian O'Meara, Eamonn Flahive, Ethan O'Sullivan, Eoin Ryan and Darragh Ryan along with the
previously mentioned Seamie Hurley and Stephen Cotter Gleeson, but special mention must go to Keith McInerney who's
seven points in the final, and many more in the preliminary rounds, was eventually what secured victory for the men (no
longer boys) from Mungret. This was a team effort, a team victory, and the team were ably steered by Brendan Ryan,
Vincent Bolger, Jason Brosnan, Joe Moriarty with Richie Burke at the helm.
Our Club motto which is displayed in the Club house hall ably describes this group, "Neart agus Misneach" (Power and
Courage) - A truly proud day to be a Mungret man.

U16 Ladies Football
Last Monday the U16s had an away fixture against Drom/Broadford in Tullylease Co. Cork. The Mungret girls
got off to a good start slotting over points at will. It was a physical encounter and we had two injuries where the
girls could not continue to play. At half time the score was Mungret 2-8 Drom 0-4. Drom came back in the
second half but the Mungret girls pulled away and ran our comfortable winners 2-20 to 2-8. We would like to
wish Emma Burke a speedy recovery as she received a serious injury during this match. The U16 were out again
on Thursday in the league in Coolyroe against Monagea. Our average age of the team was dramatically reduced
due to injury and other reasons and we would like to thank the younger girls for ‘stepping up to the plate.’ We
were not firing on all cylinders in the first half and Monagea had a decent lead at the interval but the Mungret
girls got it together in the second half to restore some pride in the game. Final score Mungret 4-5 Monagea 5-13.
U12 Ladies Football
The U12s travelled to Newcastlewest on Friday evening to take on Monagea. With confidence building with each
game played these girls were getting stuck in from the start. First half goals from Amy Dore and Jennifer Ryan
saw Mungret lead at half time 2-1 to 0-3. The second half would be a different story with Mungret playing
uphill. It was a trilling second half with both sides slotting over two points each and Monagea were going for
goals towards the end of the game to pull ahead but Mungret defended brilliantly seeing them run out winners
2-3 to 0-5.
Cash for Clobber
The collection date has been extended to this THURSDAY 29th of APRIL collection point is the changing

Junior Camogie
Our junior Camogie team Shannonside played there first match of this years junior league against NCW on
Sunday last. In what was a very competitive match our girls showed great commitment and teamwork to run out
eventual winners on a score line of 3-9 to 2-5. This team are out again on Friday evening away to
Templeglantine and play Killmallock on Monday also away. These two matches will decide the semi-final line
up which is fixed for the 10th of May.
Limerick Ladies Football
The Limerick Intermediates will contest the Division 4 League Final against Offaly next Saturday May 2nd in
Parnell Park Dublin at 4:00. We would like to wish best of luck to the Mungret girls Yvette Culhane, Martina
Giltinane, Claire Coughlan, Olivia Giltenane, Marie Curtin and Janet O’Carroll.
Also next Saturday May 2nd the Limerick U14s will take on Clare in the C Munster Final in Castletownroche Cork
at 2:00. We want to wish best of luck to the girls from Mungret Kerrie Guina, Emer O’Keeffe and Ailbha Larkin
who will line out on the day.
Mungret St Pauls 10K
Time is closing in for the 10K. If you are going to take part plese register on line early. Sunday the 17th of May is
the date of this years annual Mungret St Pauls 10K Fun Run/Walk. Don't forget the Childrens run on the
Saturday and the Obstacle race.

Cycle Against Sucide
need your help- We have been asked by Cycle Against Sucide if anyone has

Diversion Plan Times
Ballycummin Road towards Raheen Church diverted to Mulcair Road
ChurchHill Meadows all traffic diverted to Dooradoyle Road 10.00hrs to 15.00
Residents in the Raheen, Dooradoyle, Ballycummin areas are advised to be aware of all Road Closures and
diversions in place on this date and are advised to plan any journeys in advance bearing in mind the timing of
the Road closures.
An Garda Siochana would appreciate if residential Parking permit Holders would make temporary
arrangements to alter their parking practice, on the above streets, on Sunday 3rd May, during the above time
periods, so that the runner and route control arrangements can be implemented for this event, , on the May
Bank Holiday Weekend. This event has attracted over 13,000 participants, with more than half being from
