Title: Youth Programs Coordinator Division: Center for Education and Public Initiatives Supervisor’s Title: Director of Education and Public Initiatives Functions of the Youth Programs Coordinator: The CEPI Youth Programs Coordinator works with the College’s Director of the Center for Education and Public Initiatives (CEPI), College personnel, College Fellows, and external healthcare professionals to develop and teach relevant curricula for high school students enrolled in the Karabots Junior Fellows program (KJF) and the Teva Pharmaceuticals Internship program (Teva), and assists in the coordination and facilitation of these programs. The Coordinator also works with the CEPI Director on Evaluation and fundraising activities for both programs. Training, Skills and Experience Guidelines: The ideal candidate will have a passion for education and social justice, an interest in science, and excellent communication skills. Candidates should have: • Minimum of 2 years experience working with low-‐income youth, • Bachelor’s degree or higher in science or math, • Excellent writing and communication skills, • Some experience with Social Media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram, • Experience in hands-‐on science curriculum development, • Ability to work after-‐hours and some weekends. • Experience with college counseling/assistance • Experience with tutoring youth • Comfort with curriculum flexibility • Willingness to work on innovative curriculum design ideas • Willingness to occasionally give Mütter Museum tours to students, • Ability to perform other duties as assigned. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Both KJF and TEVA programs require a good understanding of science, college prep activities, academic support and an understanding of issues facing low-‐income youth in Philadelphia. Both are deeply rooted in the communities we serve as well as the College community. We like to take advantage of all opportunities for the youth to interact with community members and healthcare professionals, and so the Coordinator must be flexible enough to respond to opportunities as they arise by revising the curriculum at short notice. The KJF curriculum is designed to encourage high-‐school students to consider healthcare careers through exposure to information and experience. This position is responsible for the development and delivery of weekly lessons and activities for the school-‐year based curriculum, as well as for a two-‐week intensive summer program. This includes arranging guest speakers, scheduling programs, supervising field trips, teaching classes, managing the classroom environment, facilitating group discussions, conducting one-‐on-‐ one meetings, and tutoring. Over the course of 4 weeks each summer, the Teva curriculum focuses on exploring the impact of violence on high school students and their communities. The summer program continues with weekly meetings during the school year. This position works closely with College staff and experts from a variety of fields to coordinate all aspects of the Teva program including student recruitment; curriculum development; daily oversight and instruction; and administrative duties.
