CLASS ATTENDANCE
Class attendance is VERY IMPORTANT this time of year as the dancers prepare dances for the
concert. Please make every effort to be at all classes! It is difficult to make up for lost time, and
since the dancers are practicing in their formations, it is most helpful to have all members of the
dance participating each week. Please remember that if a dancer does need to miss class,
please call 636-978-3321 and let us know! Thanks!
WARDROBE MISTRESS & CHECK-IN CREW SIGN-UPS @ MKS Front Desk
•
WHAT IS A WARDROBE MISTRESS (otherwise known as “Backstage Mom”) & THE CHECK-IN
CREW?
A Wardrobe Mistress is a mom (or aunt, or grandma, or sister, etc…) who helps out backstage.
It is a great way to be involved and share in this exciting experience with your child!
The Check-In Crew helps to facilitate the drop off process for families at the Check-In Table.
•
WILL I BE ABLE TO SEE MY CHILD DANCE IF I AM A WARDROBE MISTRESS?
You will be able to see your child’s dance even if you help during their show! The way it is
organized, your class will be with a runner a couple dances before your child goes onstage.
You have plenty of time to go to the auditorium to see your child dance - from the Front Row!
•
RESERVED SEATING FOR WARDROBE MISTRESS & CHECK-IN CREW VOLUNTEERS
We will be saving 4 seats for Wardrobe Mistresses & 2 seats for the Check-In Crew who sign up
by 5/16. There is a maximum of 8 seats that can be saved per family. Any seats, even
reserved seats, that are still empty (and not being held by someone nearby) will be released 5
minutes before show time if we are at standing-room only.
•
WARDROBE MISTRESS/CHECK-IN CREW INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS
Find out more about being a Wardrobe Mistress or part of the Check-In Crew
on Sat, May 9 or Sat, May 16 from 1:15-2pm. The meetings will be held at MKS in Studio A at
the same time as our 1st two Final Bow/Finale rehearsals for your convenience.
COSTUMES HANDED OUT @ MKS - Mid-April through May
All costumes that have come in will be handed out starting mid-April.
You will receive a Costume Information Sheet with all costume & hair details with your costume.
These Costume Information Sheets will also be available on the Dance Concert page of our
website.
FINALE/FINAL BOW REHEARSALS @ MKS - Sat, May 9, 16, 23, 30
The Finale is the last dance of the concert and is a production number that includes Junior, Teen & Adult
dancers who choose to participate. Then, ALL of the students in each show have one last bow (the “Final
Bow”) at the end of the show!
•
IMPORTANT REHEARSALS - They are fun too. ☺
Although students will learn their section of the dance/bow during their regular class time, they need to
practice the dance as a whole with the bows before the concert.
FINALE - For students participating in the Finale (Jrs, Teens, & Adults), they
must attend 2 of the last 4 Saturdays in May from 12:30-2:00pm at MKS in order to dance the Finale.
FINAL BOW - For students not in the Finale (ages 3-5, 5-8, 8-11 & anyone else not in the Finale), they
must attend 1 of the last 4 Saturdays in May from 1:15-2:00pm at MKS.
*Students are allowed to attend more than the required amount of rehearsals if they would like.
•
WHAT TO WEAR FOR THE FINALE/FINAL BOW REHEARSALS AT MKS:
All dancers may wear comfortable clothes – t-shirts, leotards, dance pants, shorts, etc.
Please bring socks, ballet shoes, jazz shoes, or bare feet.
•
WHAT TO WEAR AT THE DRESS REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCES AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM:
FINALE - Finale dancers need to wear black full-length jazz pants, a solid black sleeveless leotard
under their finale T-shirt, tall black socks or black tights to hide ankles, and black jazz shoes.
FINAL BOW - For those in the Final Bow only, they will wear their costume. For dancers that have
multiple dances/costumes, they will be notified by their instructor of what they should wear.
CLASS & INDIVIDUAL PHOTOS @ MKS Tues May 12, Wed May 13, Thurs May 14 & Fri May 15
•
DATES: Please see your Costume Info. Sheet for your child's day/time. No classes will be held on these
evenings. We ask that all class members attend for the sake of the group photo! If you have a conflict
that cannot be avoided, please let us know ahead of time by stopping by the Front Desk or calling
636-978-3321.
•
TIME: Arrive at MKS 15 minutes prior to your scheduled picture time with your dancer dressed and
ready to go. This allows time for you to fill out your order form/pay and apply touch ups as needed.
Group photos usually happen first, and individual photos second.
•
MAKE-UP & HAIR: Use regular (NOT stage), if any, make-up for photos. Hair can be done however you
would like. These photos are for you, so feel free to do hair in curls or cute up-dos, etc.
•
COSTUME: Students must arrive in their costume, ready for the photo. Please remember to wear your
assigned tights (see your Costume Information Sheets)! If your student is in multiple classes, please
decide what costume you would like your dancer to be in for individual photos before arriving.
•
ORDER INFO: Edward Crim is our photographer. www.edwardcrim.com Picture packets with pricing
will be available in your Fun Pack, online, and at the studio on the day of photos for ordering
packages. Order Forms may be turned in to the Front Desk with payment before photo days.
DRESS REHEARSAL – THURS 6/4 & FRI 6/5 @ Ft. Zumwalt East HS Auditorium
600 1st Executive Pkwy, St. Peters, MO 63376
•
DRESS REHEARSAL GENERAL INFORMATION:
All students must attend Dress Rehearsal in order to dance in the Dance Concert.
Everyone must arrive at the Dress Rehearsal in FULL hair and make-up, with all costume pieces!
DANCERS - The dancers sit together by class in the auditorium during the dress rehearsal so that they will be able
to watch the other dances and also so that the runners will know where to find them when it is their time to
perform. Their wardrobe mistresses may take them to their dressing area to eat and use the rest room.
AUDIENCE - Parents, friends, and family may attend the rehearsal, and there will be seating for these groups.
FOOD - Please have your child eat before arriving and send a sack “lunch” for your child. No food or drink is
allowed in the auditorium. Students may eat in the dressing area with their wardrobe mistresses if needed.
ALLERGIES - Please alert someone at the Check-In Table of any allergies or special needs that your child's
wardrobe mistress may need to know about in order to better help your child. The Check-In Crew will pass that
information along.
•
COSTUMES & SHOES:
o Please be sure to have the dancer’s name or initials in EVERY piece of their costume and in their shoes.
o The dancers should arrive wearing only tights and a cover-up. (A shirt that buttons or zips is best so as not to
disturb hair or make-up)
o Please bring costumes hung up on hangers covered by a garment bag or white trash bag marked clearly
with their name to keep them clean and organized.
o Other extraneous costume items and dance shoes should be in a gallon Ziploc bag, marked with their name.
o Costumes go home with the students at the end of the rehearsal.
•
HAIR, MAKE-UP, NAIL POLISH, & JEWELRY:
o Hair and make-up should be done before arriving at the high school. Please send a make-up kit and extra
bobby pins/hairspray/etc. with your child so the wardrobe mistresses can apply touch-ups as needed.
o NO BANGS - All bangs and wispy stray hairs need to be secured tightly off the face with hair-colored clips and
a lot of hairspray and/or gel.
o Bun Instructions (if applicable): See the bun-making sheet in this packet for more details.
o Suggested hair products: Got2B Brand – Got2B blue gel for all hair, Got2B “Glued” (in a bright yellow tube) for
patting on fly-aways or frizzies – this stuff is thicker than Elmer’s School Glue, but washes out well!
o Hair decorations must be secured tightly around a bun or ponytail with bobby pins or clips.
o For girls, please apply Stage Make-up. The lack of make-up washes out skin color and facial features under
the bright stage lights. See the make-up sheet in this packet for more details and watch the Make-Up
Demonstration video online on the Dance Concert page of the MKS website. Visit www.BAstar.com, Click
"MAKEUP KITS" and look for the My King Studio kits. This is stage make-up and is offered at a great price.
o For boys: Please apply some cheek color with a touch of lip color as well, so that their facial features are not
completely washed out under the bright stage lights. There will be someone available at the concert to help
with this.
o NO COLORED NAIL POLISH! Remove all colored nail polish from fingers (and toes if the performer will be
barefoot) before bringing them to the auditorium. Clear polish is okay. No gel nails.
o NO JEWELRY! Please leave Jewelry and other valuables at home for safe-keeping. New studs (or studs that
cannot come out if the holes will close) must be covered with small, flesh-colored band-aids. Send a few
extra in case they fall off.
o NO GLITTER! No Body, Hair, or Make-Up Glitter.
•
DRESS REHEARSAL VIDEOTAPING:
Parents are invited to videotape the Dress Rehearsal, as videotaping of the Concerts will not be allowed.
•
DRESS REHEARSAL PHOTOGRAPHY:
Please note that NO flash photography (except by the hired photographer) will be permitted at any time. If you

DANCE CONCERT BUN INSTRUCTION SHEET
Make-up and Hair must be done before arriving to the Dress Rehearsal and Dance Concert.
See your Costume Info Sheet for specific Hair Style needed.
STEP 1 - Put hair into a ponytail (low, medium, or high – depending on where you need the
bun to be in the end)
HINT: Do this when hair is wet or damp; using gel is helpful also.
STEP 2 - Twist the ponytail and wrap it around the base of the ponytail as many times as needed.
HINT: You can divide the hair into multiple sections –
twist (and bobby pin) one section at a time.
You can braid the hair (or even have multiple braids)
before you twist and bobby pin.
STEP 3 - Pin the bun into place using multiple Bobby Pins, Bun Pins &/or Roller Pins.
HINT: Roller Pins (which are bigger than the normal Bobby Pins or Bun Pins) can be more effective in
holding thicker hair in a bun. You can even use a combination of them – for a lot of hair, use the
larger Roller Pins first and then use the smaller Bobby Pins and/or Bun Pins to secure smaller sections
of hair.
Bobby Pin
Bun Pin
Roller Pin
HINT: Put a hairnet that matches the natural hair color around the bun to secure stray hair and to
keep the bun contained and sleek. Wrap it around the bun as many times as necessary and use a
few small Bobby Pins or Bun Pins to hold it in place. (The hair nets can be used multiple times!)
STEP 4 - Add any needed hair decoration
- Use clips to secure hair around the bun – on the side of the head and below the bun as
needed to reduce fly-aways.
- Hairspray and/or gel all the hair to maintain the style over time. Hairspray again. ☺
- Add in the needed hair decoration - See the Costume Info Sheet for placement details
Items used can be found at Wal-Mart, Sally Beauty Supply, etc.
