endless aisle
retail kiosks
Husqvarna utilized Meridian’s Engineering team and
Mzero software technology to provide a turnkey,
endless aisle experience to shoppers of large box stores
such as Home Depot, to quickly look up and find OEM
replacement parts for yard care equipment. The Endless
Aisle solution provided, not only the ability to accurately
locate the correct OEM parts from over 100 in-store
items, by prompting the shopper with a series of simple
questions, but substantially extended the reach of the
limited store shelf space by providing access to over
30,000 additional parts not otherwise available on the
shelves of the Home Depot store. Parts could be ordered
instantly from the kiosk with a credit card and shipped
directly to the kiosk user’s house, in under 48 hours.
Meridian used the Mzero Application Platform
technology to establish and orchestrate
connections between Mzero kiosk
peripherals, user interface and seven
external server connections. The
Mzero platform provided the
ability for Meridian to create
platform add-ins to quickly
extend the capabilities of the
platform for Husqvarna’s
business needs, this
enabled Meridian
to tailor a solution
leveraging Mzero
standard features
as well as add
Husqvarna-specific
add-ins to facilitate
the retail product search and ordering. MzeroCloud
provided Return On Investment (ROI) measurability
through analytics, sales and usage reports. MzeroCloud
also provides enterprise class IT management capabilities
to centrally manage and ensure the operation state of
health of each Mzero device.
The solution utilized a OEM replacement parts
database provided by Stens Corporation. The Stens
parts database allowed the kiosk software the means to
cross reference parts by different methods including id,
make and model, location purchased and equipment
type. For efficiency and performance the database was
stored locally on the kiosk which allows for extremely
fast search results despite being serviced by wireless
3G technology. MzeroCloud synchronized the Stens
database and content with the kiosk daily using the
Mzero Datasync technology. Security access restrictions,
system hardening and data encryption were applied
to the database to protect the important intellectual
property of both Husqvarna and Stens that went into
making the solution possible.
Meridian also utilized the Mzero loyalty card services
and add-in connections to a Husqvarna’s Customer
Relationship Management (CRM) system to maintain
customer information and operate a loyalty program.
The CRM system tracked customers and purchases
through a loyalty card system allowing returning
customers to reference and find other parts related to
models for which they had previously registered with or
previously purchased. The CRM also was loaded with
over two years of past retail equipment purchase records
of Home Depot allowing a registered user to quickly and
accurately reference parts relevant to past purchases.
Mzero facilitated ordering and payment with a cart

products to be added to a shopping cart that they could

check out for purchase. Prior to purchase the kiosk references a tax service to
determine the appropriate state, city and regional retail tax charges to apply to
the product and/or shipping at the point of purchase based on the zip code.
Mzero Payment enabled Husqvarna the ability to operate a shopping cart with
connections to a tax service to allow accurate calculation of tax based on the zip
code for city state and county taxes. The checkout process allowed unattended credit
and signature debit payment at the kiosk. The Mzero payment provided husqvarna
with access to over 85% of all tier-one merchant accounts in the United States, allowing
them to choose for a list of acquirers such as First Data, Chase, Bank of America, Tsys and
processed credit cards for Visa, Mastercard, Amex, and Diners
club and featured the ability to extend the solution into Canada
and over 30 European countries by leveraging EMV chip and
pin technologies. Husqvarna also used a Virtual Terminal payment
console which is a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified solution allowing
Husqvarna to log in and review transaction details and issue
refunds and also conduct manual transactions.
To ensure Payment Card Industry (PCI) Compliance for the entire
solution from hardware, to software and network infrastructure,
Meridian worked closely with a PCI QSA (Quality Assurance Assessor)
to ensure all aspects of PCI compliance were addressed. Meridian only
delivers PA-DSS approved and listed payment solutions as well as chip and pin
EMV certified payment solutions in Canada and Europe. Meridian configures
Mzero Payment with software that ensures the entire system is hardened, access
restricted, integrity monitored, and audited to ensure PCI compliance and that the
system is maximally protected from malicious software using proven McAfee Endpoint
Security technology.
Mzero Provides a foundation common to all retail self service kiosk applications

security and compliance as well as a wealth of supporting services and features
already built into the platform making it possible for Meridian and other
Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to utilize the Mzero platform to construct
similar endless Aisle experiences quickly and effectively. Mzero provides the
foundation common to all self service allowing you to refocuses your budget
