An intersectional approach within the context of culturally competent social work
practice offers a framework for assessing unique client situations and the effects
of structural power systems. This nuanced assessment provides a more holistic
approach to systemic interventions based on the lived experience of clients.
Applications to social work practice will be discussed and will include experiential
exercises.

 Develop an understanding of intersectionality and its application in social work
practice
 Integrate intersectionality into the cultural competence framework
 Utilize the intersectionality framework in understanding unique client experiences
