So many families give generously of their time, talents and resources throughout the school year that it is difficult to put into words just how much we appreciate everyone’s efforts. NHES is such an amazing place because we have
the best resource of all — YOU! Thanks for making our community such a
wonderful, inviting place.
As we near the end of another school year, the staff would like to especially thank all of our
incredible Board of Directors members: Lori Bivins, Missy Brown,
Dylan Dimock, Carol Ann Durham, Kelly Fisher, Brad Mickle and Ed West.
Give yourself a pat on the back if you drove for library, field trips, read to students, painted,
cleaned tables, assisted with Field Day, or sponsored First Friday, cooked with students,
gardened with a class, chaired a book fair, or dozens of other ways that parents help fill the
gap. We truly appreciate every minute of your time.
Last Day Dismissal
Students in grades K-2 will be dismissed on June 5 at 11:20. Students in grades 3-5 will

parking lot.
Be careful where you park and be respectful of the church’s property.
Let’s start the summer on a safe and healthy note.
Frisbee Golf—June 5
Grades 3, 4, & 5 will play Frisbee golf from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Arrowhead Park on the
last day of school, Friday, June 5. Ms. Jill is looking for drivers and chaperones for this
fun event. Please contact Ms. Jill if you can help!

Box Tops
Don’t forget to save those box tops over the summer. This fundraiser is very beneficial
to our school. This past year we raised close to $700!
Saying Goodbye...
It is a bittersweet time of year as we say goodbye to our graduating fifth grade
class. Some of these students have been with us since kindergarten and others are
new friends, but they all will be missed. Congrats and good luck to our graduating
class:

End-of-Year Program & Graduation
Rehearsal for our End-of-Year program will take place at the Scottish Rite Auditorium on
Thursday, June 4. We are scheduled to arrive at 12:30. Drivers are needed for this event.
Please contact your child’s teacher to let them know if you are available. We will dismiss from the
Scottish Rite Auditorium, so we encourage you to make appropriate arrangements.
Our annual graduation and final choral program is set for Thursday, June 4, at the Scottish Rite Auditorium on
S. 17th street. Children need to arrive at 6:15 wearing their NHES t-shirts. We will begin the program at 6:30. There
will be a very brief business meeting followed by the choral program and graduation ceremony.
Physical Fitness
As you know, Ms. Jill puts a lot of emphasis on developing the physical fitness of our children while helping cultivate
their minds and characters. On May 1, students will head over to Hoggard High School for their annual mile or halfmile run. They trained for months and we anticipate seeing their elation and joy when they find out they can finish and
accomplish this goal that they have trained to attain! How lucky they are to have an awesome PE teacher that helps
each student reach their goal. Plus, she delivers popsicles!
Additionally, Ms. Jill would like to thank all of our Field Day volunteers:

Brett Caines
Catherine Ciarrocca

Technology Update!
Thanks to several generous families at NHES, we now have some funds that are specifically designated to
go toward our present and future technology needs. Keeping our students engaged with the latest in
the fast-moving world of technology trends is a priority. It is our goal to prepare our students by helping them acquire all of the 21st century learning skills they will need to successfully navigate their way in
today’s world. If you would like to donate to the Technology Fund, please contact the front office.
Freezy Fun Fridays
Second grade is loving setting up the frozen treats for Freezy Fun Fridays. They are learning by doing -making change, counting money, taking inventory, and learning about the concepts of goods and services.
Good manners are also emphasized -- please, thank you, may I help you? The students are eager to help
and have made this so much fun.
NHES News Broadcasts
Fourth grade students had the opportunity to make their own news videos. Some of our film
industry savvy parents (Frank Waldeck and Wendy Yamano) generously donated equipment
and volunteered their time, talents, and knowledge to assist students in filming and editing their
NHES news video segments. Students interviewed their peers and staff members, experienced
exactly what goes into the making of a news broadcast, and saw how everything gets put together to make a cohesive project. We now have some aspiring Steven Spielbergs! Students are
hoping to finish the school year with one more broadcast.
