ABOUT THE NEW JERSEY CHAPTER
Huntingtonʼs disease (HD) is a devastating,
hereditary, degenerative brain disorder that results in
a loss of cognitive, behavioral, and physical control,
and for which, presently, there is no cure.
for Huntington’s disease
Founded in 1976, the New Jersey Chapter supports
the Huntingtonʼs Disease Society of Americaʼs
mission:
•
•
•
“A Day for Mind, Body & Spirit”
To promote and support research and medical
efforts to eradicate Huntingtonʼs disease.
To assist people and families affected by
Huntingtonʼs disease to cope with the problems
presented by the disease.
To educate the public and health professionals
about Huntingtonʼs disease.
The NJ Chapter is the only voluntary health agency
dedicated to serving Huntingtonʼs disease (HD)
families in New Jersey and sponsors family services,
education, and research. The Chapter is affiliated
with the Samuel L. Bailey Huntingtonʼs Disease
Family Service Center at the University of Medicine
and Dentistry of New Jersey. The Chapter provides
services for HD families at three sites across the
state: Newark, Piscataway, and Stratford.
