January and been performing all over the country, but now is appearing

Our trip to Lord's cricket ground
http://www.telegraph.co.uk
This week we had a very interesting trip to Lord's Cricket Ground. On
Tuesday 31st of March, our teachers took us around Lord's on a tour
and our guide was called Rod. We went all around the venue and we
saw the biggest sash window in Europe! It was really fun because we
got to wear all the cricket equipment. Did you know that, in the olden
days, people that played cricket didn't wear helmets? Lord's cricket
ground is named after Thomas Lord, the founder of the place. So we
recommend you to visit Lord's and enjoy a cricket match because it
will be fun!

Farewell Miss Keane, Welcome Mrs Chandler
Sadly Miss Keane will be leaving St. Joseph’s at the end of this term to gain experience in other schools.
During her time working with the children in Year 4 she has given generously of her time and been
dedicated to the education of the pupils her care and we are very grateful to her for her generosity of spirit.
Whilst we are sorry to be bidding Miss Keane farewell we are delighted that Mrs Chandler, who has been
working in Year 4 since September, will be taking on the joint teaching role with Miss Armstrong.
I am sure that you will keep Miss Keane in your prayers as she embarks in the next stage of her career and
that you will join me in wishing Mrs Chandler luck in her new role within St. Joseph’s.

Switching off engines at school gates
We have been asked by the Tri-Borough to share this information with parents.
Motorists who sit in stationary cars with the engine running contribute to air
pollution, have a detrimental impact on health, create noise and waste fuel.
School gates have been found to be particular hotspots, with parents
leaving engines running when dropping off or picking up children.
Reflecting concern from residents about air quality, Westminster City
Council has launched a new initiative to tackle vehicle idling. Since the
middle of February the council’s Traffic Marshals have been approaching motorists who keep their engines
running while their vehicle is stationary and requesting that they turn them off.
st
Leaving a vehicle idling unnecessarily is an offence and, from 1 May 2015, drivers who refuse to turn off
their engines could be issued with a fixed penalty notice of £20. Fining motorists for idling will be employed
as a last resort and the work the Marshals are carrying out now to raise awareness should ensure a
negligible need for enforcement.

Save the Date: Walk-a-thon Friday 22 May
rd
It might seem like a long way off, but St Joseph’s 3 Annual Walk-a-thon is just around the corner. Please
save the date, take the day off of work and make arrangements to come and share this amazing day with
your children.

Please consider that this is an enormous school-wide event so any assistance that you can provide would
be greatly appreciated. We are looking for help on the day in the park (set-up, giving water to our thirsty
walkers, and cheering the kids on) or with the tea party afterwards. Please note that this is separate from
walking with the children as a Marshall.
If you are interested, please contact Michelle Waterman ([email protected]).

Child Flu Programme 2015-16
Over the last couple of years the child flu immunisation programme has been provided to two, three and
four-year olds by GPs. Initially, in 2015/16, this will be extended as follows:

two, three and four-year olds will be offered immunisation through their GP surgery; and

immunisation of children in school years 1 and 2 will take place in schools.
The Department of Health is considering extending this year-on-year to eventually target all 2-17 year olds.
The purpose of this programme is to lower the impact of flu on children and to reduce transmission to others
[those most at risk being aged under six months, aged 65 years and over, and people with certain long-term
conditions (possibly to include, as recently reported, people who are morbidly obese, but this has also yet to
be decided)].
More details will follow as they become available
TFL – Road Modernisation Plan
Transport for London, together with the boroughs, is investing £4 billion in London’s roads to radically
improve living and travel conditions in the Capital. This matters to you because roads in your local area may
be busier than usual and people’s journeys (including your staff and pupils) may be affected in different
ways while construction takes place.
