Brown & May Marine Limited Stephen [email protected] Appleby 01379 870181 CNR Ninian Northern Decommissioning Jake Laws/Rebecca Radford [email protected] 01379 872146 In 2013, Brown and May Marine Ltd were commissioned by CNR international to undertake a Socioeconomic Impact Assessment (ScIA) in relation to the Decommissioning of the Ninian Northern Platform and associated infrastructure located in the Northern North Sea. Work was undertaken collaboratively with long term industry partner the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation (SFF). The project was complex due to the high levels of commercial fishing activity by the UK and a number of international fleets that represented a diverse range of both static and towed gear types. In depth consultation with relevant commercial fisheries stakeholders, across all fleet sectors, was undertaken by the SFF, including detailed information regarding the nature of potential socioeconomic impacts. This information fed into the ScIA process undertaken by BMM, where in addition to fisheries statistics, satellite tracking and surveillance data, it facilitated an accurate and robust assessment of the socioeconomic impacts potentially sustained. The time scale and cost effectiveness of the project were enhanced by this collaborative approach. Since joining DECOM North Sea Brown and May Marine Ltd have been commissioned by BMT Cordah to undertake a socioeconomic assessment on commercial fishing activity in relation to the decommissioning of two Southern North Sea Gas platforms and associated infrastructure. For confidentiality reasons it is not possible to provide further information relating to this on-going project at this stage.
