JOIN GERAWAN FARM WORKERS COMING FROM CALIFORNIA for the PROTEST & MARCH in WASHINGTON, DC on Tuesday, MAY 5th! The Washington, D.C. City Council will vote on a resolution to tell Gerawan Farming to respect the law and implement a contract with its workers. Tuesday, MAY 5th 8:00am - PROTEST at Grover Norquist's office* (Americans for Tax Reform), 722 12th St. NW, Washington, DC 20005 & MARCH to City Hall (1350 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, DC 20004). 9:00am (approx) - PRESS CONFERENCE, outside City Hall 10:00am (approx) - City Council vote *The Center for Worker Freedom, a special project of Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform, is supporting Gerawan Farming in its efforts to deny workers their contract. Background Gerawan Farming is one of the U.S.’s largest tree fruit & grape producers with more than 5,000 workers. Gerawan sells its Prima label throughout the US. Gerawan is refusing to implement a contract with the United Farm Workers ordered by the mediator in 2013 under the California Agricultural Labor Relations Act. IF the workers had had their contract, among other benefits: • last Thanksgiving Day would have been a paid holiday between July of 2013 and July of 2014, many Gerawan workers would have earned approximately $1,480 in additional money each. Thus far, Los Angeles City Council, San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Berkeley City Council and the LA Unified School District Board have all passed resolutions. The farm workers at Gerawan are asking for our solidarity. Let’s bring out as many people possible to Washington, DC & help get a resolution passed here too.
