Dear One Acre Fund,
I am writing in response to your job opening at One Acre Fund for an Agricultural Research
Manager. I am confident that my skills and passion for agriculture is a perfect match for this
position. Below I will summarize my qualifications for the position.
I would bring your organization a broad range of skills, including:
• Agriculture research experience
• Farming experience
• Experience starting a business
• Data Analysis skill
I farm organically on my market garden in Greenbrier, Arkansas. Gobbler Ridge Farm and Plant
Nursery is the business that I started in 2014. This project was very important in developing
many skills, including agriculture, business and marketing strategies and building infrastructure.
What led me to creating this business is the years of agriculture experiences that I have.
My undergraduate degree is in environmental science, with and emphasis in Planning and
Administration. This degree was integral to the development of my interest in agriculture.
I completed a certificate in ecological horticulture from the University of California Santa Cruz
in 2013. I was trained in the techniques of agroecology and organic farming. I worked on the
farm there, where I had field training in the greenhouses, orchards, and gardens. In addition, I
participated in lectures and discussions on sustainable agriculture.
After my time there, I worked for 8 months on a organic, urban farm centered in Little Rock,
Arkansas. Little Rock Urban Farming was where I continued to develop the valuable skills that
contribute to my farming skills, including everything from simple propagation skills to
experience with Shiitake mushroom production. Little Rock Urban Farming also helped me
develop relationships within the local farming community in Arkansas. I am a true believer that
community is essential to small-scale farming.
My ultimate goal is to contribute to the health, happiness, and sustainability of our world’s
peoples and ecosystems.
Warm Regards,
Maia Larson
