This year, there were few blossoms blooming during our trip, but the residents, family members and team members were able to enjoy a nice bento lunch lakeside. This year, we decided to also do something special for those residents unable to attend the outing, by serving a bento lunch for all residents to enjoy! The bento lunces were made with a lot of love from the kitchen at Nikkei Senior Gardens. Thank you to Chef Carlos and the entire dining staff for the delicious bentos! Bento Those unable to attend the outing to Lake Balboa, were able to enjoy their bento on the patio at NSG. The Nikkei Senior Gardens family would love to know your life story. To share your history, please contact Desiree Kitagawa, Director of Life Enrichment at (818) 899-1000 or [email protected]. The Egg Report Some of you may want to consume eggs over the Easter weekend so I thought I'd post ten health benefits of eggs (and it doesn't count if they were chocolate eggs!) Tomiye Y. Noriko A. Seiichi O. April Birthdays 1. Eggs are great for the eyes. According to one study, an egg a day may prevent macular degeneration due to the carotenoid content, specifically lutein and zeaxanthin. Both nutrients are more readily available to our bodies from eggs than from other sources. 2. In another study, researchers found that people who eat eggs every day lower their risk of developing cataracts, also because of the lutein and zeaxanthin in eggs. 3. One egg contains 6 grams of high-quality protein and all 9 essential amino acids. 2—Kay N. 8—Yoshie S. 10—Mary F. 25—Miyo H. 21—Betty J. 27—Susumu M. 30—Masako K. Our Newest Residents! 4. According to a study by the Harvard School of Public Health, there is no significant link between egg consumption and heart disease. In fact, regular consumption of eggs may help prevent blood clots, stroke, and heart attacks. 5. A good source of choline, one egg yolk has about 300 micrograms of choline, which is an important nutrient that helps regulate the brain, nervous system, and cardiovascular system. 6. They contain the right kind of fat. One egg contains just 5 grams of fat and only 1.5 grams of that is saturated fat. 7. New research shows that, contrary to previous belief, moderate consumption of eggs does not have a negative impact on cholesterol. In fact, it is found that regular consumption of two eggs per day does not affect a person's lipid profile and may, in fact, improve it. It is saturated fat that raises cholesterol rather than dietary cholesterol. 8. Eggs contain naturally occurring vitamin D. Margaret T. Jean O. Help us welcome our newest residents to the community! Join us on Saturday, April 25, 2015 for our New Resident Welcome Party! 9. Eggs may prevent breast cancer. In one study, women who consumed at least 6 eggs per week lowered their risk of breast cancer by 44%. 10. Eggs promote healthy hair and nails because of their high sulphur content and wide array of vitamins and minerals. Many people find their hair growing faster after adding eggs to their diet, especially if they were previously deficient in foods containing sulphur or B12. The East Japan Railway or better known as, JR East high-speed service between Tokyo andShin-Aomori operated by E5-Series sets, is called Hayabusa (the Japanese name for the peregrine falcon) and it was named via public contest in 2010. The name was previously used for a limited express sleeping car service, that has been discontinued since 2009. The reason for the selection of this particular name was the pregegrine falcon reaches a maximum speed of 320 kilometers per hour. A speed of this Shinkansen line, for now the highest commercial speed in Japan. Brain Food Puzzle Answers (From page 11): 1.) Neon Lights 2.) Big fish in a little pond.
