Domestic Abuse & Sexual Assault Intervention Services DASI Sussex County, NJ (posted 5/14/15) Position Title: Domestic Violence Liaison Hours: Full-time exempt, primarily a daytime position with some evening hours Job Summary: The Domestic Violence Liaison Program is a partnership of the NJ Department of Children and Families (DCF), the Division of Child Protection & Permanency (DCPP), and the NJ Coalition for Battered Women (NJCBW) at the state level, and the DCPP local offices and domestic violence lead agencies at the county level. The goal of this program is to strengthen and enhance the service coordination between New Jersey’s child protection and domestic violence systems to bring about improved safety and well being outcomes for women and children when child abuse and domestic violence co-occur. Domestic Violence Liaisons are domestic violence specialists, co-located at the DCPP Area/Local offices, who assist DCPP casework staff in the assessment and service provision of DCPP protective service cases where domestic violence may be occurring, assist domestic violence providers in the identification of possible protective service cases that should be referred to DCPP, and to help coordinate services for clients. The DV Liaisons provide on-site case consultation, safety planning, support, information and referral, and advocacy for the non offending parents and their children. Responsibilities: Assist with domestic violence assessments, safety planning, DCPP child safety protection plans and case plans, by partnering with DCPP caseworkers during protective service investigations and home visits, and other outreach to families under DCPP supervision. Assist with domestic violence safety planning for the non offending parent and children for families under DCPP supervision, and provide direct advocacy, community networking and referral information. Help identify and address gaps and barriers that non offending parents face in obtaining needed support and safety for their children and them. Through case consultation and staff presentations, educate and mentor DCPP local office staff in their efforts to identify individual needs and offer appropriate interventions to address those needs. Model best practices in working with families in domestic violence situations who are also receiving child welfare/child protective services. Model collaboration and cross systems advocacy to strengthen community partnerships and enable a coordinated community teamed response when domestic violence and child abuse co-occur. Facilitate/participate in family team meetings that follow best practice guidelines and safeguards when domestic violence is present. 1 Qualifications: MSW + 3 years domestic violence service experience or Bachelors degree + 5 years domestic violence service experience preferred. Licensed clinical social worker or licensed professional counselor preferred. Certification as a Domestic Violence Specialist by the NJ Board of Domestic Violence Professionals, or for applicants without certification, twenty–five per cent of the requirements for classroom hours and supervised direct practice required for certification must be completed within one year of hire. Bilingual/bicultural in Spanish a plus. Commitment to cultural competency required. Strong clinical, communications, problem-solving, advocacy, networking and collaboration skills required.
