May 1st, 2015
1. Pictou Local Educational Bursary Draw – Six $500.00 bursaries will be awarded to students
graduating from grade 12 who will be furthering their education at a recognized instituteion of higher
learning. The six names will be randomly drawn at the June10th meeting of the Pictou Local. To be
eligible for this bursary, the student’s parent/guardian must have a contract with the CCRSB, and be a
member of the Pictou Local of the NSTU. Applications are available in Student Services and must be
faxed to Cheryl Chabassol at 902-396-2707 by Friday May 29th, 2015.
2. Community Roots Bursary – This is an annual $300 bursary, established and donated by J. Ann H.
Stalker, Kenzieville. It will be given to a graduating student who is pursuing their first year of post
secondary education at an approved university, college or community college. This bursary is open to
residents of the Barney’s River Fire Department catchment area including Barney’s River, Marshy
Hope, Rossfield, Kenzieville, Avondale, Mount Adam, Broadway, McGrath’s Mountain, Meiklefield
and French River to grated bridge. Applications are available in Student Services and must be mailed or
delivered by June 4th, 2015.
3. Pictou District Women’s Institute Bursary – One bursary of $150.00 is offered to Pictou County
students who are children, grandchildren, wards, nieces, or nephews of a Woman’s Institute member.
Information and applications are available in Student Services and are due to the bursary chairperson by
May 31st, 2015.
4. RBC Award – This award, valued at $1000, is available to a graduating student who has been accepted
to a post-secondary business or environmental studies degree program. The applicant must have a
combination of good academic merit and financial need. A complete application entails an unofficial
transcript of marks, an essay with an overview of one’s life, financial need, and plans for the future, and
one letter of reference. Applications are due in Student Services by 3 pm on May 15th, 2015.
5. Churchville Women’s Institute Memorial Bursary – This bursary, valued at $200, will be awarded to
a student who exhibits qualities of volunteerism and community involvement. Applications are
available in Student Services. Deadline for application is May 31, 2015.
6. Robert Spencer Memorial Bursary – Do you feel that you don’t fit the “scholarship applicant” mold?
Are your marks not the best measurement of your abilities? Are you curious about life, like to learn by
doing and are generous to others? Would you like to pursue your interests beyond high school at
university or community college? Then the Robert Spencer Memorial Bursary may interest you. To
apply for this bursary, please read the poster on the bulletin board outside of Student Services or on the
bulletin board in the front foyer of the school. Deadline for receipt of application letter is May 19th,
2015. This bursary is not intended for students who would typically be receiving other awards.
7. IODE Sir Frederick Banting Chapter – This bursary will be offered to graduates of any Pictou
County High School with a grade 12 diploma who plans to pursue post secondary education and requires
financial assistance. Applications must be accompanied by a transcript and a letter of reference.
Applications are available in Student Services and the deadline for receipt of application is May 15th,
2015.
8. Joanne Kohout Memorial Bursary – In honour of Joanne’s memory Tearmann Society has established
a bursary in the amount of $1000 to be awarded annually. The applicant must be a woman who is
pursuing studies relevant to issues pertaining to abused women and their children. The applicant must
personally support Tearmann Society’s mission, values and goals or have affiliation that is recognized
with Tearmann such as staff, resident (past or present), board member of volunteer. Applications are
available in Student Services and are due by May 15th, 2015.
