Graduates celebrate
academic milestone

Aurora College Thebacha
campus in Fort Smith became
headquarters for celebration
on April 24.
Thirty-two
graduates
from Thebacha Campus
in Fort Smith were recognized at annual convocation
ceremonies, along with five
who completed their studies
in office administration at
the Hay River Community
Learning Centre.
The graduates came from
15 different communities in
the NWT, along with Ottawa
and even the African country
Destiny Heaven Martin of Fort Smith was left carrying an armload of balloons
from friends and relatives offering congratulations on her new certificate in
business administration.

social work and education.
Among the dignitaries
on hand to congratulate the
graduates were NWT Commissioner George Tuccaro,
and Education, Culture and
Employment Minister Jackson Lafferty.
This year's graduating
class was overwhelmingly
female. There were just three
men among the 37 graduates.
With a certificate in office administration in hand, Karen Lafferty of Hay River
receives a congratulatory hug from Ken Latour, the college's regional program
head for the Akaitcho and South Slave. Lafferty and four others completed
their studies at the Hay River Community Learning Centre.

after accepting a certificate in office administration.
George Lee Mandeville of Yellowknife is congratulated by Education, Culture
and Employment Minister Jackson Lafferty. Mandeville completed a diploma
program in environment and natural resources technology.
Behchoko's Tyanna Steinwand, who received a diploma in environment and
natural resources technology, was the valedictorian for the graduating ceremonies.
After being presented with a certificate in office administration, Priscilla
Blackduck of Behchoko is greeted with a double hug by two sons – Zamie
Blackduck, left, and Cameo Blackduck.
Theresa Snowbird Kakfwi of Colville Lake beams will happiness after receiving a Bachelor of Education degree.
