MAYOR’S MESSAGE
Recycling Campaign: North Ogden citizens recycled 1,122 tons in 2014, the highest number in city history! We
are again setting a goal of recycling 1,200 tons in 2015, and need your help. Please take a few moments to
think about what garbage can to use when disposing of items. Remember this: North Ogden pays dumping fees
per ton for everything in the black can, but we are paid a cash reward per ton for recyclable items in the blue
can. At my house we signed up for a second recycle can, which costs only $2.65 per month. We consistently fill
both recycle cans while rarely filling our black can. By taking the time to focus on recycling, we can each find
ways to recycle more, and keep our utility rates low!

General Plan Update! Our city has benefited from years of excellent planning by past leaders. We are
working on updating our city’s General Plan to carry our city into the future. We received over 700 responses
to our General Plan survey and had nearly 200 people participate in the open houses. Thank you everyone
who took the time to share what you would like to see for our city’s future! The General Plan Steering
Committee will consider all input, and will have a draft plan to present this summer.

CHANNEL / CANAL CLEANING
If you live near a channel or canal the City is asking that you take a moment to inspect the area to
assure there is no debris that may cause a blockage near your property or downstream. If you clean
out debris from the canals, please bag it up and call the City to have it picked up.
DETENTION PONDS
We are fortunate to live in a city with its beautiful surroundings and spectacular views. With those
mountains and views come hillsides, slopes, and steep grades, which require detention ponds to slow
the flow of water, from running out of the city too fast. There are over 30 detention ponds throughout
the city and chances are that you and keep it from running too quickly. We are asking for your
consideration and cooperation in maintaining those ponds by not using them for your refuse (limbs,
grass, animal waste, etc). Your refuse causes added work for the 2-person maintenance team and
limits the proper flow of water in the ponds. Thank you.
GREEN WASTE FACILITY OPENING
The compost facility located at 2700 North and Mountain Road, will open on April 1, 2015. The hours
of operation are: Mondays and Wednesday from 3:00pm-6:00pm, Saturdays from 9:00am-2:00pm. It

during office hours (8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday thru Friday, except holidays.) You may purchase a pass
for $25.00. The pass is good for 10 (non-consecutive) days.

Sewer Backed Up?
Back up prevention - taking notice of what is flushed down toilets and sinks can prevent most backups.
DO NOT flush the following materials (or similar items) down toilets/drains. These items can plug the
main and cause damage to you and other property owners connected to the main.

•

•
Large quantities of toilet paper
Paper towels
Feminine napkins (plastic applicators)
Disposable diapers
Clothing-socks, underwear, etc.
Plastic, metal, wood, etc.
Grease, fats, oils
Sand
Sponges, scouring pads, shop rags
Large quantities of cereals or grains (they can swell with water)
Live seeds, beans, and peas (they may sprout)
Fibrous materials (cotton balls, Q-tips, baby wipes, hair, rags, cigarette butts, etc.)
Back up occupancy – first, take action to protect people and valuable property. You may call the City at
782-8111 during business hours or 782-7211 after hours, and as a courtesy service we will check the
main sewer line. Any blockages found in the main lines will be promptly cleared. If the main line is not
blocked, we recommend you call a plumbing or sewer contractor to check your lateral line.
Maintenance and repair of the lateral serving the home is the homeowner’s responsibility.
Clean up of the home should be done as soon as possible to minimize damage and possible negative
health effects. There are qualified local businesses that specialize in this type of clean up.
Thank you for taking the time to protect you and your fellow property owners.
NORTH OGDEN CIVIC LEAGUE
North Ogden Civic League
(1958 – Present)
Organized in 1958, the League’s objective: The beautification and improvement of North Ogden through
sponsoring worthy projects. We spend 100% of the money we raise sponsoring city projects. For over 50 years we
made and sold Christmas Puddings to raise funds. Since we can no longer make our own puddings, we will be
selling beautiful North Ogden City historical Afghans, beginning with a Cherry Days booth. This year we paid
$3,994 for new LED Christmas Lights for the city, sponsored the City Christmas Lighting Ceremony, and donated
$1,000 for Cherry Days sponsorship. WE LOVE NORTH OGDEN. New members are always welcome. Questions?

A Message from the North Ogden City Code Enforcement Officer
Now that the weather has started to warm up I have noticed several boats and camp
trailers parked out in front of residences. This is just a reminder when parking your
camp trailers and boats in the front of your residence you are only allowed to park it
for two days to load and two days to unload. Also with the warmer weather comes
the weeds please be vigilant around your property and cut them down before they get
six inches or higher. Thanks for your help in keeping North Ogden City a beautiful
place.

North Ogden City will be updating the utility statement
beginning May 1st. This will help to improve clarity of
City services.
You will notice a post office box return address for
North Ogden City on the coupon portion of the
statement. The City has teamed up with Wells Fargo
Bank to assist with processing mailed utility payments.
This will help the City to apply payments promptly to
your account. Please do not drop your payment off at
Wells Fargo branches. You may still make your
payment at the city office or use the drop box out
front.
Customer service is our first priority. If you have
questions on your utility statement, please call the city
office at (801)782-7211.

POLICE
515 E 2600 N | 801-782-7219
Within the last 10 years, the North Ogden Police Department has seen the number of suicidal person
calls we respond to more than double. Each of these cases involved someone who was facing some
sort of struggle in their life. Oftentimes, the person appeared to be a healthy, happy person, and in
many incidents, even those who knew him or her were unaware of the physical or emotional pain the
person faced. Each of these people had loved ones, friends, and co-workers who were affected by
their permanent solution to their temporary problem. Suicide is never the answer. All it does is cause
more grief and pain.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, or are in need of someone to talk to, please contact the Weber-DavisMorgan County Crisis/Suicide Prevention Hotline, 801-625-3700. This number is manned 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week. It doesn’t hurt to call, and calling can help alleviate the hurt you are feeling. If you
have a friend or loved one who is contemplating causing harm to him or herself, call Weber
Consolidated Dispatch, 801-629-8221. If the threat is imminent, call 911. Emergency workers will
respond to speak with the individual, and, if needed, will seek medical assistance for your loved one.
Do not ignore the signs. Too often, we hear that someone had made comments about wanting to hurt
themselves, but they were not taken seriously until it was too late.
On that note, there is a TOWN HALL MEETING scheduled for April 8, 2015 from 6:30-7:30PM in the
Weber High School Auditorium, 430 Weber High Dr. (3100 N.), Pleasant View, sponsored by the
Weber-Morgan Health Department and Weber School District. All High School Students that attend
from Weber, Fremont, Roy and Bonneville will all be able to receive attendance make up credits.
Anyone who is interested is welcome to attend. Weber County has one of the highest rates of youth
suicide in the state. There will be professionals on hand to discuss how to recognize the warning signs
of suicide, how to offer hope, and how to get help and save a life. We encourage anyone who can to
attend. The next person in crisis may be someone you care about. Come learn how to offer help and
hope.
