The end of term has seen a flurry of events, including Harmony Day, Multicultural Evening, 3 way interviews and Crazy Hair Day (raising money for the Leukaemia Foundation as part of the World’s Greatest Shave). SRC has also been busy organising entries for the World Refugee Week poster competition and organising our final assembly of the term. Monday 27th 1st Day of Term 2 Many thanks go to Juana for her leadership of our Multicultural Evening. We were fortunate to have a year 10 jazz band playing for us, from Marryatville HS and both teachers and students joined parents in traditional dances. A variety of delicious foods complemented the entertainment and it was wonderful to see so many families enjoying the night. The purpose of external school reviews is to support schools to raise achievement, sustain high performance and provide quality assurance to build public confidence in government schools. All government schools will be externally reviewed every four years. The review panel consists of a review officer and a trained review principal. The review will occur on 15th and 16th June 2015. We will find out the aspects of the school’s performance that have been verified through the review processes as well as the improvements that we need to make in the future. These include: »» individual interviews »» group discussions (with students or staff or parents) »» meetings (usually governing council, staff meeting) »» observations of student learning. Department of Education and Child Development T/A South Australian Government Schools COMMUNITY | DIVERSITY | CREATIVITY | OPPORTUNITY NAPLAN 2015 NAPLAN testing for students in years 3,5,7 will take place on Tuesday 12/5/15, Wednesday 13/5/15 and Thursday 14/5/15, with ‘catch up’ day on Friday 15th May. These tests are administered simultaneously across Australia and provide one way of assessing student achievement in English and Maths. Individual student reports are expected to be ready for distribution during August/September. Please be aware that any requests for withdrawal for personal or philosophical reasons should be discussed with class teachers in the first instance. The requests must be signed and returned by 8th May 2015. This includes younger siblings of students currently with us. We are beginning to look at numbers for next year and early information is extremely helpful. RAH are requesting donations of used adult clothing….right down to socks and jocks. The Royal Adelaide Hospital’s Emergency Department is desperately seeking clothing over winter to clothe the masses. There are a myriad of reasons adults need to be urgently clothed. Anna Smith (Oscar & Lily’s mum) A Message from the Traffic Monitors There have been a few issues occurring while traffic monitors have been on duty. Traffic monitors would appreciate cooperation in the following matters. Please do not walk through the red man light or press the button then walk off. It is the responsibility of the monitors to safely direct pedestrians across the crossing. The traffic monitors are trained and are responsible for pushing the buttons. It would be appreciated if everyone cooperated in this matter. Thank you. Tim and Isabella (Room 13) Independent Music Tutors There are a limited number of places left for students wishing to start private instrumental music lessons at Norwood Primary during Term 2. Lessons are offered for piano, keyboard, flute, clarinet, saxophone and recorder. The yellow enrolment forms are available at the front office, or alternatively please contact Michael Beare (0403004733) or Melissa Burrows (0422667261) for more information. Floristry Lessons Illume flowers will be holding floristry courses on Monday nights at Norwood Primary School. You won’t walk away with a certificate, but you will have fun and learn how to put together beautiful flowers. The cost will be $250 to be paid prior to classes commencing and $20 each week for the flowers needed for the class. Lessons will run for 8 weeks from 7.30-9.00pm or 6.00-7.30pm.
