Xbox 360 ABXY LED Mod Tools Required - ABXY Mod Kit - Soldering Iron - Solder .- Secure T8 Torx Screwdriver - Drill - 6.5mm Drill bit - Xbox 360 Controller - Vice - Glue gun Optional - Knife Xbox 360 ABXY LED Mod Choosing which Controller Matrix Wireless Board Matrix No Capacitor on the back side CG Wireless Board CG Capacitor on the back side located HORIZONTALLY CG2 Wireless Board CG2 Capacitor on the back side located VERTICALLY This will be important for later on. If you have any problems finding out which controller is yours. Take a picture of the rear of the motherboard and send to [email protected] and ill get back to you which is version of controller is yours. Xbox 360 ABXY LED Mod Opening Controller There are 7 screws (T8) located on the back of the controller. All must be unscrewed. Please Note one of the screw is located under the warranty sticker (Can be removed carefully with tweezers or go straight through with the screwdriver. The easiest way to pull the controller apart is to push both thumbsticks through and pull the back off carefully (must keep the front facing down or buttons will fall out). Xbox 360 ABXY LED Mod Preparing the Buttons This is what the button starts out like, normally having 4 prongs rising up. Next put the button into a vice (or you can use a G-Clamp but cover the button with foam so it doesn't scratch it. This shows the 4 stages of drilling from right to left. Showing from right the original, the far left smooth finish at the bottom. Xbox 360 ABXY LED Mod Preparing the Buttons (2) Then using a 6mm/6.5mm Drill bit to remove the prongs keep checking every few seconds to make sure you don't go through the plastic at the bottom. Stop when smooth with the prongs removed. (DONT GO THROUGH THE BOTTOM WHITE PART WHERE THE LETTER IS OTHERWISE IT WILL GIVE A STRANGE LOOK). Then using either hobby pliers or a knife cut the button until it is under the white part of the button. MAKE THE HOLE TO REPLACE ONE OF THE 3 TABS ON THE BUTTON You will get a rough finish normally so you will need to clean it up using a file see next page. Xbox 360 ABXY LED Mod Preparing the Buttons (3) Then use a hobby file or a small file remove the rough parts and make them smooth so later on the will run smoothly in the faceplate. Xbox 360 ABXY LED Mod Fitting the LEDs Now open your JmodsCustomConsoles mod Kit. The ABXY and Guide Button Mod kits are the same. Take out the LEDs. The LEDs will be flat but you will need to bend them at a point were there are marks on the LEDs. Now place the LED into the button so that you can glue it into place. Xbox 360 ABXY LED Mod Fitting the LEDs (2) Now using a glue gun fill the button up with glue up to the white marks. As soon as possible after filling the button with hot glue put the end of a X Acto Blade into it or the end of a drill bit. This is so that it dries flat and also at the right height. Xbox 360 ABXY LED Mod Fitting Wires Now for each button cut the led down. Keep the longer one longer as this defines the power and the shorter is the ground. There is TWO ways of fitting wires one is easier than the other but requires more wire and is harder to put the controller together. First way Fit one piece of wire to each side of the wire and place the button into the controller. This means you will have 8 wires in total. All the ground wires (4 wires) solder together and all the power wires solder together (4 wires) so you will be left with two wires. CONSIDER BOTH WAYS BEFORE ATTEMPTING THESE STEPS Xbox 360 ABXY LED Mod Fitting Wires (2) Second Way This way is by soldering the wires in series. This takes more time and can not be easy as the other way. But this way is much neater. This is done by connecting one button to another (ground to ground e.t.c) until the last button were you connect to the motherboard (as seen later) Xbox 360 ABXY LED Mod Preparing Transistor PLEASE SKIP THIS STEP IF YOU HAVE A WIRED CONTROLLER This is what you will receive in the pack (1.8k resistor and transistor) cut the resistor done to about 10-15mm. Then cut the middle leg down by half of the transistor Flat face down COLLECTOR EMITTER BASE Then solder the resistor to the centre leg as shown in the picture. (NOTE TRANSISTOR FACING FLAT FACE DOWN) Xbox 360 ABXY LED Mod Connecting to a MATRIX Controller For a matrix controller. The transistor needs to be soldered in like this. The collector is connected to the top pin. The base connected to the bottom pin. The Emitter is connected to the two NEGATIVE wires. Note: Do not cover the bottom hole as this is where the screw goes. To connect the power solder the two POSITIVE wires (as marked before) to the right hand pin in the cluster. RIGHT HAND SIDE PIN Xbox 360 ABXY LED Mod Connecting to a CG1 & CG2 Controller For a CG1 & CG2 controller the transistor needs to be soldered in like this. The collector is connected to the two NEGATIVE wires. The base connected to the top pin. The Emitter is connected to the bottom pin . To connect the power, solder the two POSITIVE wires (as marked before) to the battery + on the reverse of the controller. Xbox 360 ABXY LED Mod Connecting to a WIRED Controller (No Transistor) This is connecting the ground for the WIRED controller. NO TRANSISTOR NEEDED. Solder the two NEGATIVE wires directly to the PIN/HOLE were it says GND. To connect the power solder the two POSITIVE wires (as marked before) to the right hand pin in the cluster. RIGHT HAND SIDE PIN Xbox 360 ABXY LED Mod Reassemble Controller Reassemble controller by carefully without damaging any wires (opposite of taking apart). This can be tricky and can take time and care. If for any reasons you are stuck, have any problem or queries please contact me first before leaving feedback. Email: [email protected] Please view the FAQ on the next page Please note: If you are using a rechargeable battery pack and the LEDs look dim, please try standard/rechargeable (1.5V) batteries. Xbox 360 ABXY LED Mod Frequently asked questions I am installing more than one LED Mod. What do i need to do? When you are wiring your LED mods up, find all of the positive wires and solder them together, then do the same for the negative. Then solder to the PCB Board as the guides show you. Do i need to have more than one transistor/resistor for multiply mods? No. You will only ever need to use one transistor/resistor on your controller no matter how many mods your install (not required for matrix controller) The LEDs look dim, what should i do? Make sure you are using fresh or fully charged batteries. Please make sure you are using either 1.5V standard batteries or 1.5V rechargeable batteries. To get the most out of your LEDs please don't use rechargeable battery packs as these don't produce enough voltage for the LEDs. None of the LEDs light up when I've assembled my controller? Please check your wiring, make sure you have got your positive and negative wires together. Please check that your solder points are not touching (bridging) with other points. Check your batteries are to the standards listed above. If they still aren't working properly please email pictures of you controller internals to [email protected] to resolve the problems.
