JOB VACANCY: Research Assistant JITUNZE Project Principal Investigator: Kenneth Pass, Department of Health Behavior and Health Education, University of Michigan Co-investigator: Robert Bailey, Ph.D., M.P.H., Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Department of Anthropology, University of Illinois at Chicago Faculty Advisor: Gary Harper, Ph.D., M.P.H., Department of Health Behavior and Health Education, University of Michigan The JITUNZE Project is a qualitative research study that is a part of the Anza Mapema Study. The Anza Mapema Study, which is lead by Mr. Fredrick Otieno and Dr. Robert Bailey at the Nyanza Reproductive Health Society (NRHS), is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and examines gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men’s (GBMSM) engagement with the HIV care continuum in Kisumu. The goal of the JITUNZE Project is to examine factors that may influence sexual health across the HIV care continuum for GBMSM living with HIV who are between the ages of 18 and 40 years in Kisumu, Kenya. The JITUNZE Project is seeking to hire one (1) Research Assistant for a paid position. The Research Assistant will work in collaboration with the Principal Investigator of the study. JOB LOCATION: Kisumu TIMEFRAME: June 15, 2015 – August 21, 2015 DUTIES WILL INCLUDE: Adhering to study protocol Screening, recruiting, consenting, and interviewing research participants Data translation and transcription Performing other tasks as directed by the Principal Investigator Weekly work requirements and schedules will be discussed with the Principal Investigator to ensure that the work priorities are accomplished in the position timeframe. REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: Good written and verbal communication skills in English, Dholuo, and Kiswahili Ability to comfortably discuss sexual behavior and life experiences with GBMSM who are living with HIV Familiarity with using computer and basic software packages (Microsoft Office Suite) Ability to work independently with minimal supervision At least Diploma-level qualification in a health-related field, social science or social work Experience with GBMSM living with HIV in key population is highly preferred Experience conducting interviews for research purposes is highly preferred APPLICATIONS SHOULD INCLUDE: A cover letter detailing current work, prior experience, qualifications in the areas described above, and telephone and e-mail contact A current CV/Resume Names, telephone, and e-mail contacts of at least three (3) professional references Applications should be submitted electronically to [email protected] and [email protected] with “Research Assistant Application JITUNZE Project” on the subject line.
