147th ANNIVERSARY
Exalted Rulers Message
It appears that winter is finally
gone. Even the snow in the rear
parking lot is also gone.
Frank T. Hunt, PSVP
Exalted Ruler
On April 15 we had 85 veterans
from 3 hospitals and they had a
great time. The variety show
was a real hit this year with some
very funny skits.
On Friday we had the veterans show for our
members and guests and everyone had a great
time. The food was prepared by Rob Anderson
and Jose and they were helped in the kitchen by
Brian Goodall, Jean Hunt, Ellen and servers
trustees Don Kolman, Fred Vetter, Joe Serafino,
Mike Boller SVP Elect and others who helped
out. The roast beef was so tender that a lot of
people complemented the chefs. A few people
also wanted to know what was the cut of meat
that was cooked. I want to thank all the members
who came to the show on Friday which is how
the money is obtained to do the veterans show for
the Veterans next April. I personally thank all of
you for supporting your lodge.
On May 20 we are hosting Police night. I need
volunteers to carry the trays for the Does.
I was speaking with Geppy who is chairing our
next fishing trip on Sunday June 28 and the trip is
already sold out. What a change from last year.
Also in June is the District Veterans Barbeque at
St Albans Veterans hospital on Saturday June 13.
1868-2015
Issue 2 - May 2015
It’s a great day to serve and mingle with the
Veterans.
On Sunday June 14 we are having Flag Day at the
lodge at 5 PM and is being chaired by Mike
Stuparich.
Rob Anderson and I were discussing the
possibility of having a Friday night dinner once a
month starting in July. Let us give him support
by signing up for the event as early as possible so
he knows how many to cook for.
Also in July on Saturday July 25 is Comedy
night. This is always a good night so again sign
up early so that you are not shut out. This
normally is a sellout.
Fraternally Yours,
Frank T Hunt PSVP

I recently attended a VA/VS meeting at which we were
informed that Viet Nam Era Veterans constitute the
largest segment of the hospitalized Veterans in VA
facilities. This year the Federal Government is recognizing Viet Nam Era
Veterans with a nationwide awareness,”Viet Nam 50th Anniversary
Commemoration”. During the Viet Nam Era (August 5, 1964-May 7, 1975)
9,087,000 military personnel served on active duty which represented 9.7%
of their generation. A total of 2,709,918 Americans served in Viet Nam with
over 58,000 U.S. military fatal casualties there. Approximately 1/3 of all
U.S. Veterans who served in Viet Nam are estimated to be alive today.
You can visit the “Virtual Viet Nam Wall” at: http://www.virtualwall.org/
iStates.htm on your computer. First click on a state. When the link opens to a
city look at the names listed. Click on a name and it will give details of the
Veteran’s death, a picture or at least a biography and medals. I hope that
everyone who receives this appreciates what those who served in Viet Nam
sacrificed for our country in a turbulent time in our nation’s history. Pass this
link on to others, as many know some of the fallen whose names are listed.
On Memorial Day we as a nation pay tribute to all who have made the
“ultimate sacrifice” in past and present wars and conflicts. To all “Gold Star
Families”, you are the “Strong Survivors”. May God bless all of you.
Come join your fellow Elks brothers and sisters from Elks #1 Lodge and
participate in the Lynbrook Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25th.
Participants are to meet at the Lodge at 8am. “Classic cars” will be driven by
Elk brethren with rides available for those who are unable to walk the parade
route. All participants are invite back to the Lodge for a collation.
EARLY NOTICE FOR JUNE EVENTS
The Lodges of the Southeast District will join together to host the SE
District’s annual BBQ/Picnic for the patients at St. Albans VA Hospital on
Saturday, June 13th.
The annual “Flag Day Service”, a tribute to “Old Glory” will be celebrated
at the Lodge on Sunday, June 14th, at 5pm. A ceremony which includes a
history of our nation’s flag will take place in the main banquet room. The
presentation will be followed by a light collation.
