Next Public Performance Club Day, Sunday the 3rd of May
1pm at Senior Citz hall, King St. Opotiki and the theme is:
FAMILY.. & MOTHERS DAY TOO
xx
To be frank; it's hard to think and write ahead to up-lift the
family theme with the omnipresence of ANZAC But when you
think obout it, family is the charter of ANZAC given; the gift of
freedom from tyrany by all those who fought and those who gave
their lives so that their families and their decendants (us) could
continue to live without oppression and dominance by evil
dictators. A great many of us lost family in WWI and there is
great respect for that..... Now looking ahead to the "Family"
theme, Ed, is pleased to report that there is a wide range of
songs being practised that will surely please you at our next public performance & be
warned .. it's opening weekend for duck and pheasant season, all mics will be loaded!
GUEST ARTIST
WILL BE
**MAX WIGGINS **
FROM
WHAKATANE
Max is a foundation member of the Whakatane Club who has just started singing again.
Last Club Day: April Much enjoyed by a happy crowd although somewhat somber by the
theme of ANZAC. A little shorthanded we were, but battled on, did another great show.
We all felt for Bruce our stagemanager who single-handedly kept the shuffle stream of
songbooks going, a task made doubly difficult by one song per each per time. Good one
Bruce and all the best Kahu (who had a knee op). Tech desk also missed a mate that day,
so we hope Norm will be able to be back onboardthis coming clubday. .... Songs sung on
the day included; On a Wing and a Prayer, When this war is over, White Cliffs of Dover,
Soldier Boy, Kiss Me Goodnight Sgt Mjr, Come Away with Me. We were honoured once
again with clubbies coming from Kawerau, Whakatane and Rotorua, ... cheers! However...
the biggest event of the day was our Spotight Artist ** SHIRLEY ROBB ** who went all
out on the piano, the piano-accordian, the onimi-chord and of course thrilled us all with
her vocals and a fab duet with Beth Brown. Shirley recieved the April "woody Award" :)
Shirley says " Thank you to all for your support and encouragement, I really feel blessed and
humbled to be associated with such a fine, friendly and caring club. Many Thanks Shirl :) "
Raffle Results from April Club day:
Cash raffle: 1st .. No. 32 Colleen Deppeler. 2nd.. No. 9 Le Roy & Carlos 3rd .. No. 4 Pam
Scandlyn. The Easter Hamper Raffle winner was No. 20 Maurice Andrews ... and would you
believe it... the winner of the Additional Hamper Raffle was No. 1 ... Maurice Andrews.... WOW!!
Red Star Awards 11th April , by Sandy:
Don and I travelled to Matamata for the Red Star Junior/Intermediate Country Music Awards.
While I worked in the kitchen with no view of the show during the day, I did manage to see most
of the finalists in the evening and WOW, what a great line-up of talent there was! This was the
30th Year of the Awards; so as "Support Worker" and as "Musician" we along with some others,
were presented with a "Thank-you Medal". Each year we are looking for helpers, so if you would
like to support this great event, please add your name to next year's list. Sandy.
Whakatane Club Day 12th April
"We (Neil and I) were late arriving as we were following a large campervan and they kept
stopping for a cuppa, so we sat at the back of a full hall (wow) I had a peek around. There was
Mick, Jim and June, Norman and Pauline, Bruce and Cecilie, and of course Don and Sandy, Alan
and Sharon. What a turn out from Twin Rivers. The afternoon bounced along with a good
selection of songs. Good music, good company and as always, good food." Signed Beth. ;)

For Maurice: .... A blonde gets a job as a physical education teacher of 16 year olds.......She
notices a boy at the end of the field standing alone, while all the other kids are running around
having fun kicking a ball. She takes pity on him and decides to speak to him...... 'You ok?' she
says........ 'Yes.' he says .....'You can go and play with the other kids you know' she says.... 'It's
best I stay here.' he says......'Why's that sweetie?' asks the blonde.......The boy looks at her
incredulously and says...."Because I'm the goalie! (We are still waiting for your Chicken Song Marice lol)
To all members having a birthday in the month of May ... "Happy Birthday" from Twin Rivers ;)
