5TH GRADE EOY READING TEST
Third, fourth and fifth graders annually participate in the Ohio Achievement Assessment and End of
Year tests. The tests are given to all Ohio students to measure students’ knowledge of various subjects.
These assessments help Oak Hills to assess overall achievement of our students, schools and rigor of
our instruction. In order to help your child put testing in perspective, remind them that this yearly
“check-up” highlights their overall strengths and identifies areas of improvement. The Springmyer
staff wants every student to perform at his or her highest level. Parents, you can help your child by
doing the following:
1.) Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep.
2.) Be certain your child eats a healthy, well-balanced breakfast and takes any daily medications.
3.) Have your child to school by 8:30 a.m.
4.) Please do your best to avoid scheduling appointments for your child on testing days.

Destination Imagination – DI Diamonds
We are proud to share that the D.I. Diamonds, from Springmyer and Oakdale won 2nd place at the state
competition and will be moving on to the Global Finals in Knoxville next month. They will not only represent
Oak Hills but the will be announced as representing the State of Ohio!
They also were awarded the Renaissance Award, for Innovative and Creative Design and Engineering, there
were only six of this given for the whole tournament. This was incredibly exciting, as the main piece
mentioned in the description was the pyramid that the team has worked on throughout the season but made
extra efforts on between Regionals and State. Now more work begins, we need to focus in on the fine tuning
and fundraising to make sure we can make it to Globals. Thanks so much for all you are doing to support our
kids. The amount of knowledge and information they gain from this program is phenomenal. We cannot
think of any of any other program, that incorporates STEM, teamwork, problem solving and creativity and
theater production, the way Destination Imagination does.
The team consists of: Front Row: Michael Schuster Ethan MarshallBack Row: Natalie Brittain, Nicholas
Murray, Erin Kumler, Kristan Coleman, Katelyn Evans
As a community service project, S.M.A.SH. (Springmyer’s Movers and Shakers) will be collecting Pop Tabs to
donate to Cincinnati’s Ronald McDonald House. We’re helping keep families together when it matters most,
and we’re teaching our students the value of recycling! Ronald McDonald House provides a “home away from
home” for the families of critically ill children seeking medical treatment at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital
Medical Center. Pop tabs are recycled to earn money to help provide all the comforts of “home” to these
families. Students can bring pop tabs to the school office where each grade level will have a bucket. The
grade level with the most pop tabs brought in will win an extra hour of recess. Pop tabs will be collected from
April 20 - May 12. Thank you for your support!
