A HUGE Thank You for all the submissions to the PTA 4-1-1 Contest! It was wonderful seeing
all the ways in which Annual Conference has benefitted our local units throughout Virginia.
Our GRAND PRIZE winner is Sharon Abernathy from Oak Knoll Middle School PTA in
Hanover County!!! Sharon will receive a FREE 2-day registration ($125 value) to Annual
Conference this year! Sharon shared 2 photos and said,
“I can't lie. I only took two photos during the entire Annual Conference last summer. I was
having way too much fun to stop and take pictures. Both of my pictures are blurry, but I am
including them anyway! The photos, do, however, represent one of the best parts of conference
to me. Making friends. The person in these photos was last year’s Elementary School Volunteer
of the Year. She was nominated by her local unit president, Carey O'Brien. I sat with these ladies
during the banquet and had such a great evening. Because we had gotten to know each other at
dinner, Carey and I sat next to each other at the remaining workshops that we had in common.
Together, we brainstormed and shared ideas for our PTAs during the entire. Carey and I have
maintained our PTA relationship throughout the year. I value her opinion and admire her as a
leader. I am excited that she has been nominated to serve on the Board of the Hanover County
Council for the upcoming school year and I can’t wait to work with her. This was my first
conference in many, many years and I had the time of my life. I was so excited that I went home
after my Boot Camp session the first night, and then Friday and Saturday nights, and stayed up
until the wee hours of the morning making notes, lists, and plans of everything I hoped to take
back to my local unit. I can't wait to attend this year's conference.”
CONGRATULATIONS to Sharon and the Oak Knoll Middle School PTA! We can’t wait to see
you at Annual Conference in July!
