We, the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary, are a pilgrim church. Under the

Baptism Class
The next Baptism class will be Thursday, May
14th at 6:30 PM in the St. Gianna Room of the
Pastoral Center. Parents wishing to have their
child baptized and confirmed adults who have been
asked to be a godparent must attend this program,
which is regularly offered by all the parishes.

Don’t miss our Annual Bake Sale, sponsored by
the Our Lady of the Rosary Guild. The Bake Sale
is next weekend, May 2-3, in the Parish Hall after
each Mass. The Bake Sale benefits our Parish as
well as you and your taste buds, that is if you partake

The Nuova Gen committee is hard at work
planning our next Ferragosto celebration, happening

A New Shepherd

Today, Jesus tells us that he is
the Good Shepherd, the one who
lays down his life for his sheep. Our
reflection on this Gospel passage
comes as we as a diocese celebrate
having a new shepherd. On April
15th, 2015, San Diego celebrated
the installation of Bishop Robert
W. McElroy as the sixth bishop of San Diego. More
than 1,000 people attended the Mass at St. Therese of
Carmel Church. Cardinals, bishops, priests, sisters,
and representatives from all 98 parishes of the diocese
were in attendance, along with representatives from the
Armenian Apostolic, Ukrainian Orthodox, Lutheran,
Mormon, and Muslim clergy.
In his homily, Bishop McElroy pointed out that
the gift of Baptism is what unites us and is more
important than any particular position we might hold
in the Church. He quoted St. Augustine, saying “For
you I am a bishop; with you I am a Christian.”
He went on to outline the three central challenges
before the diocese at this moment in history. The first
challenge is to proclaim the unlimited mercy of God.
Bishop McElroy quoted Pope Emeritus Benedict
XVI: “Mercy is the central nucleus of God’s message;
it is the very name of God, the face with which he
revealed himself in the old covenant and fully in Jesus
Christ.” But mercy does not mean “evacuating the
moral law of its substance and challenge,” Bishop
McElroy emphasized. Rather, it means to imitate
Jesus’ approach to people: “embracing them with
loving mercy, then healing their wounds, and only
then proclaiming the moral law of reform.”
The second challenge is to witness to the grace of
God present in the richness of our cultural diversity.
“This diversity constitutes a powerful gift of the Holy
Spirit palpably present here in our midst,” he said. The
congregation included representatives from the Irish,
Hispanic, Filipino, Vietnamese, African American,
Tongan, Native American, and Armed Forces
communities, underlining the diversity.
Finally, we should seek to build bridges in our
contemporary world. “We Catholics are not called
to separate from culture, nor to be co-opted by our
culture, nor to war against our culture, but to embrace
our culture with a powerful and transformative love
rooted in the Gospel,” the bishop said.

Installation Mass.

Once the bishop-designate accepts the
responsibility of shepherding the diocese, he is then
led to the cathedra or bishop’s chair. Bp. McElroy
was seated by Archbishops Gomez and Vigano. Once seated, he was given his crosier (shepherd’s
staff) and mitre, indicating that he had officially
taken possession of the Diocese of San Diego.

To be modestly and tastefully dressed is a sign of respect for God, for our selves, and for others.
It’s a false assumption that God does not care how we dress. Jesus told us “Whatever you do to the least of my brothers,
you do it to me.” If our attire is indecently provocative (short shorts, strapless, backless, spaghetti strap dresses/tops, or
displaying cleavage), displaying unwholesome graphics (skulls, advertisements, scantly clad people) or tattered, it becomes
offensive to our brothers and sisters who are worshipping the Lord and therefore offensive to God’s Majesty.
Ask this question: “Would you dress this way before God?” You are! He sees everything and you are in His house.
