Oneonta Little League Recaps Thursday April 30, 2015 VSH vs Elks VSH moved to 3-0 tonight after downing Elks 14-2. VSH was aided by great pitching and timely hitting on this 70 degree night. Brandon Gregory and Jordan Goble combined for 14 strike outs for VSH. Nate Amadon had two doubles, Nate Collins had a triple and a single, Griffin Tenor had an inside the park home run and Brandon Gregory had two doubles. Dalton Wells was a bright spot for the Elks with a home run in the 2 nd inning. Wednesday April 29, 2015 Police vs Northern Eagle This was the “Game of the Week.” Police jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and never trailed, but the outcome wasn’t certain till the last out of the night. Northern Eagle kept battling back. The score was 5-4 after three innings, 6-5 after five innings and 8-6 after six. The winning pitcher for Police was Cole Platt. Kevin Kurkowski had three hits with a double and scored three times. Liam Blair and Khysani Atkinson added triples for the Police. For Northern Eagle, Dylan Waid had a triple and a single, Andrew Carrington hit a home run for the second game in a row. Tuesday April 28, 2015 VSH vs Reinhardt In defeating Reinhardt on Tuesday night, VSH was able to do what no Oneonta LL team has done since 2013. VSH used solid pitching and timely hitting to take down the reigning champs. VSH’s Nick Collins and Brandon Gregory opened up the second inning with doubles. Gregory drove in Collins, then stole 3rd and home for the 2-0 lead. Reinhardt tied it up in the top of the 5th. Aiden Breakey and Tanner Russin opened up the inning with singles. Jeremy Meyers brought both players home with a 2 RBI single. VSH was not to be denied as they scored 2 more in the bottom of the 5th. Griffin Tenore got on base with a single and Nate Amadon brought home the winning run with a triple. Nick Collins then drove in Nate for the final margin. Monday April 27, 2015 Elks vs Community Bank Elks was clicking on all cylinders today in defeating Community Bank 18-3. Starting on the mound for Elks was Dalton Wells who was perfect through two innings retiring 6 straight batters. With a comfortable lead the Elks coaches chose to pull Dalton after three to keep him fresh for Thursday’s matchup with VSH. Elks’ Karri Lawrence went 3 for 3 today with a single, a double and a triple. Community Bank’s Jarod Card broke up the no hitter for Elks with a hard hit base hit in the third inning. Saturday April 25, 2015 Saturday was the opening day of the 2015 Little League season. While there was a chill in the air Mother Nature cooperated and provided sunny skies all day. After thanking countless individuals for their contributions, Little League president Todd Loucks dedicated the 2015 season to Terry Zimmer. Terry was a coach and volunteer in the league for six years and continued to organize fund raisers and the trips to Yankee Stadium for our community. After Alex Loucks sang a beautiful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner and the reading of the “Little League Pledge,” teams took the fields for the opening day games. Northern Eagle vs Elks The opening game had Northern Eagle beating Elks 12-3. Northern Eagle pitchers Dylan Waid (8k’s) and Seamus Catella (7k’s) combined for 15 strikeouts to shut down Elks. Waid also went 2 for 3 at the plate. Andrew Carrington hit the laces of the ball going 2 for 3 with a double and a home run. One bright spot for the Elks was the bat of Zyeir Lawrence who hit a bomb to left field. The hit nearly cleared the top the trees in left field. Luckily there was no traffic on I-88 at the time. Reinhardt vs Police In game two, Reinhardt defeated Police 6-1. Tanner Russin pitched a gem for Reinhardt only giving up one run while striking out 15 batters. Tanner also went two for three at the plate. Aiden Breakey also went two for three and Devon Loucks added a base hit. A bright spot for Police was Cole Platt hitting a shot to right field for a triple. VSH vs Community Bank In the last game of the day VSH beat Community Bank 8-3 Jordan Goble scored a run every time he went to the plate in scoring 4 runs. Nick Collins was the starting pitcher for VSH and got the win with Nathan Amadon finishing the game and getting the save.
