We would like to remind our visitors of the following;:
All people are encouraged to participate in the sacred services of our Church. We hope that you will be able to worship as
well as have fellowship with us. Should you wish any information about the Orthodox Faith or this parish in particular, please see
the rector or any member of the church. We are able to place you on our mailing list.
Only Orthodox Christians may receive the Eucharist (Holy Communion) in the Orthodox Church. In like manner, Orthodox
Christians may not receive the sacraments in an non-Orthodox Church. While we hope that one day all Christians will find unity
and be able to approach the chalice of our Lord together, we observe the teachings of the Church that the Eucharist is a gift of
unity and not a means of unity.
We remind our faithful and visitors of the following guidelines concerning the Holy Sacraments in the Orthodox Church.
Orthodox Christians are urged to receive Holy Communion frequently.
Communicants should be at peace with others before approaching the chalice(Mt 5:23-24)
Realize the importance of making a thorough examination of sins and transgressions against God, ourselves and others and
having prayed for forgiveness before coming to Holy Communion.
Frequent communicants should come to Holy Confession at least four times a year (during the four fasting periods of the
year). and additionally when an examination of conscience reveals the necessity to do so in order to heal any sinful behavior.
Communicants should fast from all foods and liquids from the evening before receiving Holy Communion.
Communicants should read prayers in preparation for receiving Holy Communion.
All Orthodox Christians must receive the sacraments at least once a year.
Those who are late for Divine Liturgy ( after the reading of the Epistle and Gospel) should not approach the chalice.
Those who are ill or who have special physical needs are exempt from the above guidelines.
Infants and children (up to the age of seven) who are Orthodox Christians may receive Holy Communion and are exempt from
the above guidelines.
Thank you for gathering to worship with us today. Together we have glorified the One God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. May
we be brought closer to one another and closer to God by following the eternal teachings of our Lord.

ті, хто причащаються, повинні бути у мирі з іншими перш, нас підійти до євхаристичної чаші (Св.Матвій 5:23-24);

Ode 1
This is the Day of Resurrection! Let us be illumined! This is the Pascha, the
Pascha of the Lord, for from death to life, and from earth to heaven has
Christ our God led us as we sing the Song of Victory.
Ode 3
O come, let us drink not miraculous water drawn forth from a barren
stone, but a new vintage from the fount of incorruption springing from the
tomb of Christ. In Him we are established.
Hypakoe
Before dawn Mary and the women came and found the stone rolled away
from the tomb. They heard the angelic voice: why do you seek among the
dead as a man the one who is everlasting light? Behold the clothes in the
grave, go proclaim to the world: the Lord is risen, He has slain death as He
is Son of God, saving the race of man.
Ode 4
The inspired prophet, Habakkuk, now stands with us in holy vigil. He is like a
shining angel who cries with a piercing voice: Today salvation has come to the world
for Christ is risen as all powerful.
Ode 5
Let us arise at the rising of the sun and bring to the Master a hymn instead of myrrh,
and we shall see Christ the Son of righteousness who cause life to dawn for all.
Ode 6
Thou didst descend O Christ, to the depths of the earth. Thou didst break the
everlasting bars which had held death’s captives and like Jonah from the whale on the
third day, Thou didst arise from the grave.
Ode 7
He who saved the three young men from the furnace became incarnate and suffered as a mortal man; through His
sufferings He clothed what is mortal in the robe of immortality. He alone is most blessed and most glorious, the
God of our fathers.
Ode 8
This is the chosen and holy day, first of Sabbaths - King and Lord of Days. The Feasts of Feasts, Holy Day of Holy
Days. On this day we bless Christ for evermore.
Ode 9
The angel cried to the lady, the lady full of grace: Rejoice, O pure virgin, again I say rejoice. Your Son is
risen from His three days in the tomb, with Himself He has raised all the dead. Rejoice, rejoice all ye people.

Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life!
Kondak
Thou didst descend into the tomb, O Immortal! Thou didst destroy the power of death! In victory didst Thou arise,
O Christ God, proclaiming rejoice to the myrrhbearing women, granting peace to Thy apostles, and bestowing
resurrection on the fallen.

Lesson from the Acts of the Apostles
(c. 1, v. 1-8)
In my first book, O Theophilus, I gave you a full account of what Jesus did and taught from the beginning of his
mission until the day he ascended into heaven. Before his Ascension he gave his final instructions about the Holy
Spirit to the Apostles he had chosen. For after his Passion he had appeared to them alive beyond any doubt; he had
revealed himself to them repeatedly during a period of forty days; and he had preached to them about the kingdom
of God.
While he was staying with them, he ordered them, saying: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the fulfillment
of the promise of the Father, about which I have spoken to you. For John baptized with water, but in a few days
you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."
Then those, who were assembled, asked him: "Lord, will you now restore the kingdom of Israel ?"
He answered them: "It is impossible for you to know the times and the periods of events, which the Father has
kept within his own providence. But you will receive power, when the Holy Spirit descends upon you. Then you
will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea, in Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
Gospel According to St. John
(c.1, v. 1-17)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was by God, and the Word
was God. He was by God in the very beginning. Everything came into being
through him, and no existence was created apart from him. In him there was
life and that life was the Light of men. That Light shines in the darkness, but
the darkness cannot overpower it.
A man, whose name was John, was sent by God. He came as a witness to
bear testimony to the Light and to help all men to believe through him. He
was not the Light, he .came only to bear testimony to the Light. The true
Light is that which enlightens every man coming into the world.
He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world
did not recognize him. He came to his own home, yet his own people did
not receive him. But he empowered all those who received him and who
believed in his name to become children of God, because they owe their rebirth not to human blood nor to the will
of the flesh, but to God.
So the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We have seen his glory such as belongs to the only-begotten
Son of the Father, full of grace and truth. John testified to him when he cried: "This is the one of whom I said, He
who comes after me is above me, because he existed before me." We have all received from his abundance grace
upon grace. For the Law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

The Tradition of the Paschal Egg
There is a beautiful tradition within the life of the Church for believers to
have as their last meal before beginning the Great Lenten Fast, to eat a hard
boiled egg, white in color. This egg represents our sinful nature, and we eat
this egg with the hope that the Lenten journey will bring us to repentance,
and make us worthy to receive the Risen Lord Jesus Christ.
The great and holy myrrh-bearer
Mary Magdalene, equal of the apostles, during a dinner with the emperor
Tiberius Caesar, was speaking about Christ’s resurrection. Caesar scoffed at
her, saying that a man could rise from the dead no more than the egg in her
hand could turn red. Immediately, the egg turned red. This is believed to be
an explanation for dyeing eggs red at Pascha.
At the end of Matins, during the Paschal service, the priest hands out a red
egg, symbolizing the blood of Christ, to each worshiper. At the beginning of
the Paschal feast, following the Midnight Liturgy, believers break the Lenten
Fast by again eating an egg.
As we hit our red eggs together, while saying, “Christ is Risen”, we are symbolically proclaiming the truth that
Christ, by his death and holy resurrection, broke the bonds and power of death. The breaking of the eggs represents
the opening of the tomb, and the crashing of the doors of hell, with Christ destroying the power of darkness and
death, forever.

Let God Arise
Let God Arise! Psalm 67(8) begins with this powerful phrase that can mentally transport us into the brilliance
of our light-filled churches on Pascha night. On that glorious night, when the presence of God is so palpable, it
seems as though all of creation is proclaiming the Resurrection of Christ with unmitigated joy when we sing "Let
God arise, let His enemies be scattered." With these victorious words, we are also, in a sense, declaring our entire
faith: Jesus Christ our Risen Lord has triumphed over death—the ultimate enemy—and through Him we have
eternal life.
"Through Him" means to live with Him, to have Him in our hearts at all times—not just on Pascha. Our life in
Christ calls us to a life of faith and works. What are works? Put simply, our works are to seek union with God by
keeping the Commandments—putting into practice that which we learn in the Holy Scriptures. But this is not
something we can just "do" because we have faith. Only with prayer—only with God's help does this even begin to
be possible.
Let God arise! Scatter the enemies that are relentlessly seeking to pull us away from Him and from His
Commandments. These three words that have such an impact on our souls on Pascha night can be a prayer
throughout the year—-a short utterance to help shift our focus to God when we find ourselves disquieted or
overwhelmed by our circumstances. This can be a plea to Christ to rise into our hearts from the tomb that we bury
Him in, perhaps unwittingly, whenever we find that we have turned away from Him.
Let us pray the words of the psalmist, and let God arise into our hearts and flood them with His light, peace, truth,
and the joy of His glorious Resurrection!

Pascha and Creation

The universe itself – all that exists – exists for Pascha. We were created for this.
He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation; for in him all
things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones
or dominions or principalities or authorities — all things were created through
him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Everything which exists, exists for Christ, was made by Him and for Him.
According to St. Maximus, Christ’s Pascha is the cause of all things. God’s
statement, “Let there be light,” was a Paschal moment in which the world came
into existence through His infinite goodness. Thus, all that we see, every speck of
dust is itself the result of Pascha.
By the same token, Pascha is also our re-creation: “If anyone is in Christ, behold, he is a new creation” (2 Cor.
5:17). Further, we can also say that the whole of our Baptized life is the creation of Pascha:
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of
God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hid
with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. (Col. 3:1-4).
These things being the case, how should we then live? As one reader asked, “How do we live Pascha?” In a sense
the answer is too large for it is the whole of the Christian life. As such the fullness of the answer can only be found
in living the fullness of the life we have in Christ. But I will offer one small suggestion. It is found in the words of
the Morning Prayer of the Elders of Optina, found in many Orthodox prayer books. To pray it and mean it, is to
walk in the resurrection. It is, at least, a place to start. Particular attention should be paid to the petition that all
things come from God – without this understanding, we cannot give thanks – and unless we give thanks to God for
all things, we will never truly know Pascha, much less love our enemies. If we truly know God and see Him in the
fullness of His Pascha, we will be able to forgive even our enemies, even those who have not asked forgiveness and
intend to hurt us again. Because I am dead, I cannot be hurt. Because I live I cannot die. Great is the Mystery of
God in Christ Jesus!
O Lord, grant that I may meet all that this coming day brings to me with spiritual tranquility. Grant that I may fully
surrender myself to Thy holy Will.
At every hour of this day, direct and support me in all things. Whatsoever news may reach me in the course of the
day, teach me to accept it with a calm soul and the firm conviction that all is subject to Thy holy Will.
Direct my thoughts and feelings in all my words and actions. In all unexpected occurrences, do not let me forget
that all is sent down from Thee.
Grant that I may deal straightforwardly and wisely with every member of my family, neither embarrassing nor
saddening anyone.
O Lord, grant me the strength to endure the fatigue of the coming day and all the events that take place during it.
Direct my will and teach me to pray, to believe, to hope, to be patient, to forgive, and to love. Amen.
