Dear Incoming Students,
Welcome to Dartmouth!
The excitement is building on campus as we prepare for your arrival this fall. On behalf of the Dean
of the College Division, I would like to invite you to be part of one of our College’s strongest
traditions – DOC First-Year Trips.
Every fall, the Dartmouth Outing Club (DOC), the oldest student-run outing club in the country,
organizes the unique DOC Trips program right before Orientation begins. In the last few years,
approximately 95% of the incoming class participated in the Trips program and were welcomed into
the community by over 350 student volunteers. In addition to exploring the beautiful New
Hampshire outdoors, these five-day excursions provide you with the opportunity to get to know
your fellow classmates and connect with student leaders who can support you throughout your time
at Dartmouth.
DOC First-Year trips are open to all incoming students, regardless of your prior experience or
accessibility needs. The program’s directors, Peety Kaur ’15 and Sam Parker ‘15, will work with you
to find a trip that is both comfortable and accessible; there is no need to worry about getting in over
your head. Students from all backgrounds and identities have participated in the past, so I invite
you to consider registering for a DOC Trip. If you have questions about the program, please visit
their website or contact the Trips office.
DOC First-Year Trips is entirely run by students and those of us in the Dean of the College Division
look forward to collaborating with the program’s leadership each year to ensure a safe and
comfortable environment for all participants. It’s one of my favorite Dartmouth traditions, so I
sincerely hope you find your trip to be an enjoyable beginning to a wonderful college experience.
Sincerely,
Inge-Lise Ameer
Interim Dean of the College
