APRIL 19, 2015 • THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER
From the Pastor’s Desk
“A.D.”, Sunday Nights, NBC-TV, 8:00 pm
This twelve week mini-series explores the exciting and inspiring events that followed after the Crucifixion of Jesus.
Watch as the Christian disciples struggle to survive and share their beliefs.
EPISODE 1: “The Tomb Is Open” (Air date: Sunday, April 5);
EPISODE 2: “The Body Is Gone” (Air date: Sunday, April 12).
To view these past episodes online, go to www.nbc.com/ad-the-biblecontinues/video
EPISODE 3: (Air date: Sunday, April 19, 8:00 p.m., NBC-TV)
Episode Summary: The Holy Spirit appears to the Apostles at Pentecost. Peter heals a lame
beggar. Tensions rise between Pontius Pilate, Caiphas and King Herod. Discussion questions:
How do you think Peter and John felt when they actually succeeded in healing a lame man?
This miniseries places the growth of Christianity in the context of political maneuvering and
social unrest. Does that change the story for you? How? Do you think it provides helpful insights? (from www.americanbible.org)

Queen of May News
Tickets are selling really well for our Queen of May dinner and
Auction! This year, we are trying something new and different to
improve bidding and the check-out procedures. We have hired a
company called Auctions By Cellular (ABC) to ensure we have a
successful check-out! Here are some details:
 The Silent Auction bidding will be done via texting on
your cell phone. Perhaps you do not have a cell phone or
you do not text on your cell phone? This is not a problem,
as the company we are working with (ABC) will have
Personal Shoppers in red shirts roaming through the Silent
Auction area to assist you.
 The Live Auction and Fund-A-Need will continue with
the bid number paddles that we are accustomed to using.
 At the end of the evening, the ABC reps will guide you
through the check-out line. You may pay by check, cash
or credit card.
 A way to ensure the process goes even more smoothly for

The first meeting of the IC Mother’s Club met in the church auditorium on Monday, October 27, 1952. Ninety-four members were
present.
In celebration of the school’s 75th Anniversary, the archives have been dusted off and we are finding some great
photos and stories to share about our church and school!
Each week, one of the interesting facts and stories will be
published here in the bulletin. These historical facts and
stories come from a collection of publications and a paper
written by a former parishioner

Catholic Home Missions Appeal
Strengthening the Church at Home
Please help us strengthen the Church here in the U.S. by giving
generously to the Catholic Home Missions Appeal on the weekend of April 25-26. The Catholic Home Missions Appeal, which
is a U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops effort, helps fund catechesis, seminarian education, lay ministry training and other
pastoral programs in U.S. dioceses that are unable to provide by
themselves. Currently, 45% of all U.S. dioceses receive some
home mission support, including dioceses in Minnesota, due to
priest shortages, parishioner poverty, unemployment, isolated and
difficult terrain, religious hostility and other circumstances that
make it hard to practice the faith. Please help as you are able. May
you be blessed for your generosity to the Catholic Home Missions
Appeal.

Reflection
Third Sunday of Easter
“He stood in their midst and said to
them, ‘Peace be with you.’ But they
were startled and terrified.” What
was so terrifying about being
wished peace? How ironic that the
disciples were so scared right at the
moment that Jesus was offering
them peace.
The fact is that they didn’t understand what was going on. They
were already aware at this point that
Jesus had risen from the dead, and
two of them had just had a powerful
encounter with him on the road to Emmaus. But now, he suddenly
appeared before them, in a manner that was not only totally unexpected, but also apparently physically impossible. This is why
they thought they were seeing a ghost. It just didn't make sense.
Jesus reassured them with concrete actions. He told them to look
at him and to touch him. He wanted his disciples to be comforted
by his real physical presence among them. He wanted them to
come into contact with his entire being, not just the abstract idea
of his presence. Once they did this, they were “incredulous for joy
and were amazed.” The peace that he wished for them was now
complemented by great joy. It just took a while to sink in.
This may be the case for us at times too. We may not understand
the mysterious ways in which Jesus is present in our lives. Sometimes he is hidden in what Mother Teresa called “the distressing
disguise.” His Spirit may be present, wishing to bring us peace
right in the midst of stress, sickness, anguish, or pain, but we may
not recognize him at first. But just because he may not “show up”
in the way we expect doesn’t mean he isn’t with us. The risen
Christ also wants to give us the gift of peace.

Road to Discipleship
D
ear children, I have chosen you, my apostles, because all of
you carry something beautiful within you. You can help me
to have the love, for the sake of which my Son died and then resurrected, win anew. Therefore, I am calling you, my apostles, to
try to see something good in every creature of God, in all of my
children, and to try to understand them. My children, you are all
brothers and sisters through the same Holy Spirit. You, filled with
love for my Son, can speak of what you know to all those who
have not come to know that love. You have come to know the love
of my Son, you have comprehended His Resurrection, with joy
you cast your gaze towards Him. My motherly desire is for all of
my children to be united in love for Jesus. Therefore, I am calling
you, my apostles, to live the Eucharist with joy, because in the
Eucharist my Son gives Himself to you anew and with His example shows the love and sacrifice towards the neighbor. Thank
you.”
